What did you do to your TJ today?

I think the 42RLE just shit the bed on me. Was a little low on fluid, so topped it off with about 3/4 of a QT of Valvoline ATF+4. Went to leave my house, started whining kind of like a power steering pump does, then goes to "neutral". Put it in park, then drive and turned back around to drive home. Was fine as long as I didn't exceed 1k RPMs. The second you try to accelerate, it whines and drops the gears. Fluid looks kinda brown and not so much red. Have no TCU or engine codes either. 🤔🤔🤔

Sounds like what happened to my 03' KJ with 42rle trans. Found chunks when I dropped the pan. Found used trans for $600 and new ones for $2200.

Based on the "photographic evidence", it looks like you're favoring the right a bit, if you don't mind me saying. You might want to "switch hit" for a bit with the self-pleasuring... 🤣

Oh Lord, if we’re going to get into shaking hands with the unemployed….. maybe that is the illustrious John Cooper

Got the front brakes finished up - new softlines connected, brakes bled.

I'm not sure if I need to use this BMB lockout tool for vacuum bleeding, so I did anyway! Besides, I also had to "pump up" the brakes to get the new caliper cylinders positioned.

One of the old ones - which actually looks a lot better than it did as much of the loose rust has fallen off of it from handling.

So - left to do: Re-install the freshly repainted diff cover, fill with oil, and then the new steering assembly (ZJ upgrade). Then - ASS-U-ME-ing I didn't fuck anything up on this job, I'll be able to take her out and test things. If that passes, then it goes to the alignment shop - I have lifetime free alignments from my local Firestone outfit.

More body work. I was hoping to have it in paint today but this sucker is such a bondo buggy! I just couldn't ignore a lot of it. There are a few things that I did ignore but I'm doing it 90+% right because black shows everything. If it was a lighter color I could've ignored a lot more. It has a salvage title so it isn't worth doing absolutely everything.

Funny thing is it never slipped once on me since owning it or shifted funny. Everything has been fine. It just made a whining noise and dropped straight to "neutral". No codes either. If it is just the front pump failure, I can replace those myself, I even have the ability and knowledge to rebuild the whole transmission if needed.
