What did you do to your TJ today?

Upper door slider came in. A little off colorwise as the top has faded some. No matter tho

I transformed my TJ into one of the most reviled TJs on the forum.

I installed a new set of Milestar Patagonia MT-02 tires :eek:

I had the originals on my WJ and I liked them there.

I put less than 2k miles per year on my TJ so they'll dry rot before I wear them out.

Son in law installed a set of Milestar street tires on his truck. I'm watching with interest.
 
Got the "other" wheel done with the rear brake cylinder replacement. I was going to also replace the rear flex line, but it turns out that I do not have the necessary wrench. Necessary wrench on order, in the meantime, I'll bleed the brakes for the practice as I've never done it before.
 
It's a slippery slope...

It started with the heater hose tube on the water pump having developed some rust blisters and one was getting a bit damp. I quickly figured out that to change the tube, I'd have to pull the water pump. So I figured that while I had the pump off, I'd replace it. To replace the water pump, the fan clutch would need to be removed from it, so I figured what the heck. I'll change that too. I kept driving it while waiting on parts and the ol' CEL started trying to light up the world again. A quick check on the OBD scanner revealed that the engine wasn't getting warm enough to suit the ECM. I'd put a new thermostat in when I replaced the radiator a couple of years ago with one of those failsafe ones and figured it was sticking open. I've had that happen on other vehicles in the past. So I rounded up a new thermostat while I was at it.

I took it all apart and got it back together easy enough (a bad omen if there ever was one). Filled it back up with fresh coolant, rechecked tightness on everything I'd taken apart and drove it across town and on the way back I started seeing steam coming out from the front of the hood. Fortunately I was only about a half mile from home so I just eased it on into the garage and shut it down. I opened the hood and there was too much hot coolant and steam going around and it had gotten dark, so I figured I'd check it out in the morning.

Got up early and went out with a flashlight checking it all out. I discovered that the lower radiator hose was no longer attached to the the water pump. And the chinesium hose clamp I put on there new when I replaced the radiator and hoses had stripped out. A quick dig around in the shop extra parts boxes and I found the clamps I'd replaced with the chinesium ones. Two were the original spring clamps for the upper hose and the lowers were some old made in the USA ones that I cleaned up. Replaced the clamps with the older ones, refilled with coolant again and started up. Got to noticing coolant still flying around under the hood and after a bit I discovered that the upper hose on the radiator end had a definite drip going on. So I went to the local hardware store and picked up some replacement clamps. I managed to swap out the clamps with only pulling one end of the hose so not much coolant leaked out. (I about ran out of my antifreeze supply during this evolution). Then tightened the holy heck out of the clamps

Cranked it back up and couldn't find any leaks, so I've been driving the heck out ol the LJ around the area for the past two days and no more leaks noted. I think next time that darn tube starts leaking, I'll just JB Weld the hole and call it good.

The original Patagonia MTs that I had on my WJ wore very well for the time I had them on there ~10k.

The big drawback to them was that they were not very good in the rain. Wait, they were BAD in the rain.

The MT-02s are supposedly much improved in that area as well as some others. I'll let everyone know after I've tried them out for a bit.

My friend owns a tire shop and I do his computer and IT stuff so I get tires at cost.

Since I drive so few miles and long tread life isn't a concern, we were looking at the cheapest Chinesium tires around.

The only ones I was interested in were only about $20 per tire less than these so I went with what I know.

We have a ride coming up on the 11th so I'm looking forward to seeing how they do.

My old tires still had tread and were 10 years newer that the ones on my camping trailer, so they went on the trailer.

Got my Savvy crossmembers all painted up,bracketry etc. 😁 Just gotta press in the bushings on the crossmember which I forgot to do before painting🙄.....
Added some extra welds here and there on the trans mount and crossmember,Why? Cause I felt the need to do so! Since I'm gonna run more power with the stroker I got planned. The extra peace in mind helps 🙂
Now all I gotta do is paint the savvy skid plate a natural aluminum color for extra "corrosion resistance" my Lj is a daily and I'd rather again have that peace in mind for when the icy weather arrives I won't need to worry much for when the salt is laid down on the roads 😁

Paint used ⬇️ used a 60 grit with a DA sander and it came out good 😁

Edit- I will say these parts have cured for a good 6 days even with this cool mid 40s weather and the day of painting it was a warm ish 75 degrees and the paint is rather soft.... I can scratch it with my fingernails and the dirt/dust that was on it also scratched it when I wiped it off with my hands so I'm not all too impressed but oh well.....the stuff is coated now I guess 🙄 looks pretty nonetheless

Enamel? It needs heat and time like most spray paints
