That's where mine is....What the hell... I've never seen a TJ with an evap canister in that location before. What year is it? 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder?

I'm not 100% sure but I think they did that change in either 03 or 04.I've only ever owned 2005 models. On the 05-06 models it's not there, it's behind the rear passenger wheel well. I guess I just learned something new today!

yes you need it. Not so much just a Cali thing, it captures fuel vapors and cycles them back to the engine rather than the atmosphere.Emissions crap in Cali so then I need it, if I Want it to pass smog... thanks
