What the hell is with these mushrooms

Hoping someone may know something about these F'ing mushrooms destorying my driveway. I have owned the house for 6 years and it was built in 2005, I had one of these pop up 2 years ago and I killed it with a bit of gasoline but now they are popping up thru the asphalt.

You have pavement mushrooms. According to my internet research, you have rotting wood under the asphalt from dead tree roots or construction trash from years ago. The mushrooms can push up through several inches of asphalt and sometimes even concrete. The only fixes are to wait it out until the mushrooms finish doing their work, or excavate and remove the food source. Pouring stuff on the visible mushroom fruiting bodies does nothing because most of the mushroom is underground.

I thought this was going to be a very different thread going by the title...

+1 about the pavement being thin and the mushrooms coming from decaying debris under the surface. I doubt the surface was prepped properly with gravel before they paved it which is leading to this issue most likely.

I mean fungus is wild the way it can grow in the dark, but that's a whole new level of persistence. But at the same time, it's incredible, as long as it isn't happening to your property.

I'm amazed at how quickly they can grow. This past month some have been popping up in my yard. There's nothing in the morning, then when I check in the afternoon, I find one that's 3" tall.

I think this is the kind of mushroom that if you eat it, it gives you super-powers... that or it kills you! I met a Mycologist when I was in Australia, he advised us that if you can't positively identify a fungus as harmless that you shouldn't even touch them with your bare skin. Some of them are really bad news for being toxic.

Even when a mushroom expert says they are harmless and edible I still let them eat some before I cook mine!
