Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

I did some research last night and found that I could use the Argon & CO2 for welding the stainless also the welds just wouldn't look as well as the tri-mix. So I went out to the garage this morning since my daughter decided to sleep in this morning. The one difference I found when using the Argon/CO2 was that it seems to burn hotter as I had a few burn throughs.

I ended up using the last two pie cut pieces and have one that I'd messed up when trying to tack it on. I've got to wait for the V-Band clamps for 2.5" pipe since I'd forgotten to get any for that size pipe. The 90* pipe is against the lower link mount but I don't want to trim the pipe until I've got the V-Band clamp.

I got the muffler yesterday so I can get that setup and figure out how I'm going to run the turnout.

I think it all turned out really good for my first time trying something like this.

My plan is to put the V-Band clamp where the slip pipe is right now. That will make hooking it all up a lot easier also. I'll call the ceramic coating shop on Monday and ask about getting this done.

So I started messing around with the muffler and and trying to figure out where and how to run the tailpipe if you can call it that.

One option is to snake it around the upper link and then stick it out the side but it would blow onto the Anti-Rock arm some of the time and the back of the tire so I'm not sure it's a good option.

And then of course there is the EASY way out and just use a 90* off the back of the muffler pointed towards the ground.

I hear all the time that having the exhaust exit under your rig can be a bad idea as it can make the exhaust fumes come up into the cabin. So I'm worried about that but really don't have a lot of options without trying to split the pipe and run a dual 2" to 2.5" exhaust from the muffler back. But it would still have to come out in front of the axle since the tank take up all the room behind it.

So those of you who have your exhaust just turned down under your rig speak up please. I'd like to hear what you think of how it works and if you find you get exhaust fumes inside.

Mine is turned down right after the skid plate. Just pure laziness of me not wanting to try to route it with triangulated uppers. No complaints of exhaust fumes, even while crawling with the top off. It is very loud though, could just be my muffler.

Thanks for the replies. Makes me feel better about not trying to snake it out the side or back. I can do the turn down for now and IF I ever notice it causing issues I can always redo things and snake it out the side.

x2.
but once craps finalized i plan on givin it a fair attempt to get it out back again.

Mine is also turned down in front of the axle but that is not the final plan. The stretch tank and the Atlas created the need to shorten it, an eventual outboard will create more room to route it out the back. The exhaust tone is much louder and there is definitely some heating of the axle tube.

Mine is turned down and I will occasionally smell it for a split second when slowing down to a stop light but I never smell it while crawling or wheeling. I have the stock muffler so it’s barely louder to me. I had planned on fixing it but it doesn’t bother me so I haven’t bothered it lol

I got a late start today as I slept in and didn't even get up until after 9AM.

So I went out to the garage and I grabbed some parts that needed media blasting and figured I'd try out my new lights.
MAN is it nice being able to see inside the blasting cabinet now.

I started with the gas pedal mounting bracket. Forgot to take a picture of it before I cleaned it up. But trust me it was all rusted up for some reason.

This is the cover that goes under the steering column.

And then the gas pedal it self.

Everything all cleaned up. I'll get these wiped down and spray them with some paint. Hopefully they won't get all rusted up again. I'm still not sure why they are so rusted but they are cleaned up now.

I had forgotten to take pictures of the drivers side exhaust pipe before I'd installed it yesterday so figured I'd take them today. Once I get the final version done I'll take a few more.

Then I cleaned up around my 20 ton press to get things ready for when I start to install the gears in the rear axle. I've got to figure how the load bolt is going to mount. Reading the instructions from Jantz Engineering it looks like I'm right in one of the ribs so I'll talk with Carl once he's back in the shop.
While I was cleaning up around the press I installed a release knob from SWAG Off-Road on the press so I don't have to use the handle anymore.

Carl Jantz stopped by yesterday on his way home from visiting family over the holidays.

He had Super Jeep with him. This thing is impressive to see in person. Those 46" Claws are huge.

I ran up and picked up the mail. I'd ordered this filler plate that mounts where the rubber snubbers are on the tailgate. It lights up Red.

It's got two LED strips in the back.

Plus I got some of the exhaust parts I'd ordered.
