Turns out as a new to the party Jeep TJ owner. There is a quick learning curve! You will be spending money. You will be replacing just about everything imaginable on your little gem.
After you finish your projects and tally up the total expenses. You are left with, the hard to swallow, fact that you now own a 20+ year old vehicle worth 30K plus. I am guessing that this value is unattainable on the open market. So, now it is time to just enjoy it, and except the fact you have a new family air loom? I am only posting this as way to vent. I am not totally discouraged. Just in need of some supportive words from fellow TJ enthusiasts. Cause the wife and friends, are curious about my mental stability and my obsession over this Jeep. The bewildered looks are starting to make me wonder if maybe they are right. Am I crazy?

I think most of us here are wrenching on them ourselves which certainly helps. Personally, I hardly do any work on mine that is required. It has been a pretty good vehicle. Now thing's I've wanted to do... different story.

Yes, you are crazy and so am I. It's crazy to own a box, that gets dreadful gas mileage, leaks water inside like crazy, and drinks parts like they're water. But, I love my TJ.

They aren't just vehicles to get from point A to point B to us. They are part of a complete experience of finding a good one to buy, repairing, modifying, and seeing what it will do after your mods, and then working to refine those modifications. No it doesn't end and that is by design!

I just received my TJ back in July. I've spent way too much money on it, and things keep breaking on it. But damn, driving it around with the top down and doors off is so much fun.

I bought this as a project and to learn how to wrench myself. I have definitely learned a lot about cars from working on it. It has been a blast!

Just make sure that you understand that just because you may have invested > $30k, doesn’t make it worth that. That factor alone is why I refuse to track my expenses even though I have two accounting degrees.

Ten years ago when I bought the Jeep as stock, I said I wasn't going to do much to it. That lasted a couple months and hasn't ended yet.

LOL yeah, just bought an 11K TJ about 4 months ago. Said TJ is on my lift and strung across my shop with about 7K in parts going into it! Good times!

I don't look at the money going into my Jeeps for it's resale value. Instead, I think what I can do with it now that I put this money into it. I didn't buy my Jeeps to sell them. I bought them to wheel them.
