Probably not going to make it this year, but last year we brought the mt bikes and rode the following trails.
Slickrock
Moab Brand trails
Navajo Rocks.

Slickrock and Brand trails were fun and great for an afternoon after wheeling. Navajo Rocks was awesome and I highly recommend them, if I was heading back I would definitely hit Navajo Rocks again.

Yes, lockers help. Especially on harder trails where you might lift a front tire.
I just don't want newbies to think you can't go without them. Moab slickrick has incredible traction, and you'll be surprised at what you can climb... without lockers.
A word of caution from Grampa's Garage about lockers and slickrock...

"Be sure to turn your lockers off before turning on slickrock! We see a lot of broken lockers, axles, and especially joints due to the excellent traction."

So, use them on the straight climbs, but turn them off as soon as you don't NEED them! And bring an extra set of joints, just in case.

On a separate issue, if people have radio questions or need programming I'm here to help. I recommend everyone have their own copy of RT Systems software and cable! I'll send last years file to anyone who wants it. Email dino.kx6d at the Gmail place.

I bought two of these for last year and loaned them out. They are still a great deal at this price. Send them to me and I'll program them or buy the RT Systems software AND cable and I'll send you the file!! These radios do race radio ham, frs, and gmrs. When they break, use them to chock your tires.

@jjvw Didn't you bust your Rubicon locker last year by not locking it up?

Thanks for the offer! It's getting pretty stupid how many radios I'm collecting with everyone on a different one. I'm about to rip out my CB since everyone has since switched to HAM and GMRS it seems. Can we start a pole for what will be the official radio of TJ Fest so I don't need to bring them all?

5 GMRS channels were set aside with digital code for last year's event. I recommend keeping those for this year. I labeled them TJFest1, TJFest2, etc in all the radios I programmed. They already have the private code programmed in.

GMRS & CB Channels
These are the official channels we will be using for our time at TJ Fest. You'll need a either a GMRS or CB ratio (preferably the former).

GroupGMRS Channel (freq)DCSCB Channel
TJ Fest16 (462.575)D223N20
Hyphens (CO)17 (462.600)D223N30
LJs18 (462.625)D223N

...

First time the locker stripped likely from crash locks.

Second time the LSD stripped from actually using the LSD.

Like Dino said, we pretty much settled on GMRS last year. Most of the CO group's CBs are either dead or almost there.

Someone told me recently that the new UV-5rs no longer do GMRS, but I haven't confirmed it for myself since I have a stack of them sitting at home. But it may be worth double checking.

Will you be at TJ Fest 2022 Dino?

It's been discussed that the factory (rear) Rubicon locker will survive locked longer than unlocked.
Pick your battles.

The recent UV5R radios are FCC legal now. No more gmrs.

My CB died last Fall. I'll be tearing it all out soon and not replace it.
The part that sucks is mounted GMRS radios aren't as affordable as CBs. I guess a redeeming factor is I never needed to spend much time tuning it (though maybe it will fry itself eventually).

I need to figure out a way to mount my handheld GMRS. There has to be a way. It can be annoying with it in the cupholder or wedged between the seat and console.

I already tore out my CB stuff a couple weeks ago when I did the BedRug. Good riddance. I had more problems with that than I did graduating from the university.

I couldn't find a way to mount a handheld that I liked. That's how I ended up with a hard mounted gmrs and a couple handhelds.

The one perk of my CB setup is I already had a remote speaker to mount up by my head! You probably could plug the handheld into a speaker and at least hear a lot more easily.

An air vent holder might work for your radio. Something like a cell phone holder? Cheers
