Work from home LJ

Nice! I’ll hold off on Currie for the rear then. I can add later if I really need it.
See Ryan's note - my confused response was for sway bars, when you were looking for guidance on track bars. The above advice on the track bars is solid.

(Pay no attention to the man in the big yellow jeep....)

Yep. I followed.

Track bars from Currie. Swaylock or Antirock in front, can stay with stock + longer links in rear unless need better articulation down the road.

If so, add swaylock or antirock in the rear

I believe this is the summary of the advice ^

The swayloc really shines for a daily/road use, if it's mostly a trail rig it's much less important and probably just a waste of money.

Sweet Jeep! Cute dog, ditch that front bumper. Not sure about the body mounted mirrors or the fenders but curious to follow along on your progress. I’m down in Atlanta if you ever wanna go wheeling and drag it over some rocks!

What is issue with fenders? I realize they aren’t high quality but they were pretty low on priority to fix.

same here with bumper, Care to elaborate on issue with the front bumper?

The mirrors are mounted on the doors now. I threw the body mounted mirrors out. That was dumb mistake.

Got the seat risers from buchanon precision and stable seat bushings installed. I didnt take pictures because they are super easy and well documented already.

I just noticed a whine from what appears to be the front end around 50-60 miles per hour. Im not sure how long its been there. The previous owner put a very loud exhaust on the Jeep and I havent swapped it out yet (although I need to), so it was really hard to hear.

Going to pull the front driveshaft and see if that resolves the issue. If not, probably bad pinion bearing or gears.

I am not that concerned really. Im about to replace the gears anyway and gears looked good <300 miles ago when I changed the diff fluid.

I got parts for my other car today, so hoping I can get those installed tonight and garage space back for more installs of parts on the LJ

Finally got other car finished up and Jeep is back in garage now.

Have two tasks to tackle this week while waiting for parts.

Have a stripped bolt on passenger side door hinge to remove and need to pull the front driveshaft.

Also need to buy a shop press (to use in upcoming installs).

It seems like im going to have to go 12 Ton based on space alone. I’d love the 20 but I don’t think I can make it fit in my tiny garage.

Great start. I decided to go with quick disconnects for the swaybar instead of the Antirock/Swaylock to save some money and justified it in my mind by thinking the onroad manners would be better. Just an option for you to think about. It takes just a couple minutes to disconnect prior to wheeling and if you get the pins to fasten to the frame when disconnected it prevents a ton of headaches breaking zip ties.

Also, I would not put the rear swaybar high on your list - I have not had any real concerns with the factory one.

I am interested to see how your DIY regear goes- looks like you are sourcing a donor HP30. You may want to look at adding a locker at the same time. I like to think I know my limitations for wrenching and patience, so I decided ECGS was the easy out for that.

Good luck with the build.

Yeah im going to lock both front and rear when I do rebuild. Most likely Eatons but that decision is a few months away at this stage.

I see you're located in Raleigh, if you interested in wheeling we've got a NC wheelers thread , probably gonna try to go down to gultches sometime in the near future

Thought I was going to go pickup HP Dana 30 today but seller was way further away than his FB listing indicated.

Hoping I can make the trip next weekend. I wasn’t planning on building axles quite yet but deal is too good to pass up.

Havent bought axles yet but am actively looking.

I did order big brake kit. Kit will be overkill on 32”s but 35”s are in my near future.

I’m guessing people here have trucks/trailers to transport axles? I’m hoping I can get by renting a U-Haul trailer and towing behind LJ / Wife’s pilot.

We ultimately decided against moving. Which means the rest of the build is going to be completed in my tiny garage.

Next steps will be cleaning out garage this weekend, and building some shelving to get anything I can off the ground.

Lucked out after 6 months of searching. LP Dana 30 being delivered to my house for $80. Guy just wants out of his garage.

I’d have gone HP Dana 30 if given the choice but this was so cheap I couldn’t pass.

I wanted to buy a new axle and rebuild it from scratch vs mess with the Dana 30 under my LJ.

That way, I can take as much time as I need and learn without Jeep being out of commission
