Just an FYI for the venmo users out there

Long story short I sent a $500 deposit for a jeep project and as soon as the person received the money they stopped communicating. I called, texted and sent facebook messages. I talked to my bank and I also filed a police report all of which was presented to venmo to support my case.

I sent the payment as goods and services. I received an email this morning that my claim was denied and I am out the $500.

I did everything correctly on my end and still end up getting fucked. My new rule is if I cant/won't drive and do a deal in person I'm passing.

Venmo is owned by PayPal. Never, ever sell anything firearm related through either of them. They banned me for life from both just because I sold something on GunBroker and the guy paid me via PayPal 🤦🏻
To be honest I'm over this electronic payment bullshit... @Zorba Might be the butt of technology jokes but I bet he never has to deal with this bullshit...cash is king

It's a possibility but still doesn't guarantee I get my money back correct? I'm not up on small claims but I think I'll check into it
I think you may have wage garnishment options but I don’t have any personal experience with it.

Actually, I use PayPal extensively. Can you contest it through your credit card issuer? It sounds like though that you used a linked bank account? THAT I never do. My bank account stays the hell off the Internet. I'd sue the bastard in small claims court.

Venmo I barely know what that is other than its a smartphone thing owned by PayPal.

My venmo account was linked to my checking account so that's the one mistake I made

If the seller was out of state, I'd contact that state police... this is wire fraud, which is much worse than just theft because it becomes a federal issue.
The seller is in the same state just opposite end so roughly 4 hours away

I refuse to do that - its a HUGE security hole and you have no recourse if someone hacks your account - or rips you off as we've seen here. I've only ever filed one dispute with PayPal - and it came out OK, didn't even have to get my credit card people involved.

Unless I personally know who I am dealing with, I wont use venmo. Too many stories of people accepting payment only to have it retracted because a buyer hacked someones account. I've listed items for sale and several times now have had people suggest they'll pay via venmo, and I turned it down simply because there is no protection.

Well yeah, you didn't know that about Venmo? ONLY use it to send money to those you trust.

This-Plus per PayPal's services agreement, they can then keep any money made to/by/for you and you're shit outta luck too!

Yes, they did keep the money I made. PayPal owns Venmo too, so once you're banned from one they automatically remove you from the other.

I fucking hate these bullshit woke companies.

Maybe we should set up a pay service specifically for firearm related items with some type of security? lol, but not really a joke!

After the guy helped me get off golden spike when my radiator blew. I needed some cash to pay him for the help. Moab's bank wouldn't let me write a check for cash since I didn't have an account there nor could I pull enough from an ATM. Finally someone suggested venmo and it's the first time I used it. Worked well but I wasn't waiting on anything from anybody either.

Other than being a PayPal thing, it's a good app for sending/receiving money as long as you trust the person on the other end?

are there popular alternatives? My parents use CashApp but it probably doesn't offer any security over Venmo...just the moral victory of not supporting Paypal i guess.
