Looking to replace the ng370 in my lj. I know of the ax15 option and have had a tj w a nv4500 atlas combo. The nv4500 was like having a very wide ratio box in it. There any other options besides the 5k 6 sp that came out a few years ago? An auto is an option if I can have all factory functions ie cruise ect yeah I like those buttons

There's the Tremec TR-4050, but if you didn't like how wide the ratios were on a NV4500, they're similar (if it was a GM NV4500) or even wider (if it was a Dodge NV4500).

Any reason you're not pursuing the AX15? Just curious but the reason so many people run it is it's strong, easy to adapt since it was used from factory, and it has decent ratios when combined with proper axle gears.
Its still a sheetmetal and plastic piece of shit on the inside...

Agreed, if you've already got everything set up around the NSG370, the AX15 is hard to beat. When I hadn't yet narrowed down my driveline noise to the transfer case, if it'd been the NV3550 I would have just replaced it with a new AX15.
Uhm not even in the same league, hemi transmission was almost bullet proof in the 1960’s at over 1500 hp with factory parts… and the 440 and 426 max wedge all were the same builds. 904 was comparable to a th400
I'm talking Jeep or 4x4 transmissions... The 400's in the Full size cherokees I had were not bad, and were less troublesome than the later year grand wagoneer 727
I just swapped mine to an Ax15 and not sure it could have been easier. The new Ax15 plus adapter bellhousing were only about $200 more than a rebuilt nsg370. The only piece that wasn't strictly bolt on was 3 minutes of grinding on the transmission mount bracket and the custom Frankenstein tub shift boot that I made to avoid buying one with a center console from an 03-04.
I have one... and with mopar parts in it with a few upgrades, the sonnax stuff fixed most of the drain back issues, those transmissions are bullet proof, dodge and plymouth had the same innards as the amc one and the spline count and bolt pattern for the 727 will swap with the NSG. the only issue is the CPS needs to either be relocated or a mount built to hold it in the original location on the 05-06 models.
