Being in jail for possession of small amounts of weed ought not to be a crime at all.
Nonviolent victimless crimes should never mean jail time. Probably shouldn’t be crimes.
Agreed. That’s where I differ from some conservatives. I think police and jail reform are indeed needed, greatly. I don’t agree with defunding the police but I definitely agree with reforming them.
I also think that there’s a lot of drugs (not all but several) that should be made legal. Weed is certainly one of them.
I might be agreeable to that once tests like the one below are proven reliable and accurate... Although it has nothing to do with police reform and everything to do with amending/changing the current laws on the books. Police don't make the laws they enforce them. Jails don't determine how long the sentence is, Judiciaries do, with the guidance of letter of the law. So again it falls back on the legislators to amend or change the laws concerning minimum/maximum sentences for each crime. Repeat offenders should be held more accountable than a first time offender. As far as jailing people for smoking weed... Kamel Toes Harris put more people behind bars for weed than any other state in the country and threw the book at them. Many of those people are still in prison how long now after it became legal to smoke it in CA? So I don't really see this as a liberal vs conservative problem. I know a whole LOT of conservatives that would be happy to see marijuana become legal in every state... Where their hang up is most conservatives believe the laws should be enforced even if they don't agree with the law!
Just like alcohol, weed is a mind altering substance that can slow reaction time, therefor it poses a considerable danger to the public in general when driving is tossed in the mix.
A CDL driver is allowed 0.00 alcohol in their system while operating commercial equipment and 0.04 in their own personal vehicle, marijuana has to be treated the same.

I agree with some reservation... Who's to say what a "victimless crime" is?
Most laws aren’t being enforced as is. In fact, look at the obscure laws that still exist in every state and you’ll see that none of them are enforced any longer even though they are still laws. So the police do get to pick and choose what they enforce and I have a feeling that involves the police chief and DA. If you are the police chief and your officers are regularly busting people for having small amounts of marijuana on them only to have the DA refuse to prosecute, then my guess is the police chief tells his guys to stop busting people for this sort of thing. We can see a lot of this going on in liberal cities as we speak.
I don’t disagree with that whatsoever. Where I disagree is when they start letting people off easy for violent crimes, often times simply because of the color of their skin. Crimes that invoke real violence shouldn’t go un-prosecuted.
Any mind altering drug is illegal while driving. You can get a DUI for marijuana, alcohol, even prescription drugs. That’s how it should be though.
All I am getting at is that there’s a large difference between people who so drugs recreationally and those who are hardened criminals.
I look at marijuana as being one of those things where it blows my mind as to why it was ever illegally to begin with.
