Spare tire mount

Not offended, just amused. I'm not here to ridicule anyone for their efforts to better their situation. I just tend to view/weigh alternatives to the current. I have no doubt the "good old boy" network is in full force at times.

I will offer my alternative for critique...feel free to flame away lol. How about a small bolt-on or weld-on bracket with a small low profile scissor type jack attached near and parallel to the top edge of the bumper? Painted to match the bumper it would be no more conspicuous than anything else I have seen to date and would actually fully support the spare. Correctly installed it could be slightly lowered to operate the tailgate when needed. I'm not a fan of $500 solutions on Jeeps every time something arises.

Matter of fact I just spotted an easy approach to my solution...in my particular situation. Notice the wannabe hitch receiver welded into my bumper. Just a little fabrication and I could have said scissor lift that would be completely removable. (y)

A little scissor jack? That's a really annoying solution. 🤣

I’d recommend filling the spare with helium.

The issue with the scissors lift solution is the same as a swing away tire carrier that I finally got away from. It's something else you have to do before you open the gate. It's a PIA when you're constantly in and out for various reasons to adjust this then open the gate. Shut the gate then re-adjust. Oh wait, I forgot something. Adjust, open, close, re-adjust. It was the whole reason I got rid of the swing away tire carrier on the bumper. Let alone the banging and clanging.

That's one of a few reasons it's a dumb option, it lacks any real practicality.

Agree that anything added will be an extra step, but if you actually need the support a necessary evil. The other methods depicted are not very effective by design. I think the swing away carrier is the best solution...if it's noisy I would have worked on that rather than deleting it.

You're acting like you know the story there 🤣 🤣

Only know what I see and was described. You are obviously committed to denial.

"The problem is that the left side is only supported by the latch pin. The bouncing tire can eventually tear the passenger side corner of the tub off of the spot welds holding it to the rear torque box and body mounts."

Did I miss the point? Not calling you a boob, but you are exhibiting very boobish behaviour.

Practicality vs real damage proven to be caused by non-effective support?

Your silly scissor jack would have been ripped off in the rocks. My shelf was added too late in the game. And what my corner damage really demonstrates is how poorly attached the rear corners of the tub are.

Which demonstrates that the swing away is probably the best solution after all.

Then it's a shame I got rid of my swing out for being heavy, noisy, and constantly in the way of rocks and trees. Along with being a pain to use when accessing the rear of the Jeep.

What is abundantly clear are the types of problems you have encountered with your Jeep along with the solutions you have come up with to address them. Or the lack thereof. Which is fine. Not everyone has the same wants and needs with regard to functionality. The reality so far, is that your insights are quite useless for me.
