Best Generation of Wrangler?

My first Jeep was a 2012 JKU. This was great for DD use. Though when I started wheeling harder trails and watching TJ's breeze through, then my bulky JKU would get stuck.

I ended up trading my JKU for my LJ. My first few runs felt like I was cheating.

I liked my LJ so much, I bought a YJ a few months ago to complement it.

It’s too early to judge the YJ; I’ve reduced the lift, shrunk the tires, replaced the entire exhaust system among other things to brink it close to stock. I’m in the middle of replacing the rear driveshaft u-joints, and carpet from ACC will go in soon.

I really enjoy the old character of the YJ, even the “buzzzzzzz” of the seatbelt reminder. I like how bare-bones it is. No one can convince me that a TJ/JK/JL is more “classic” because of round headlights.

I agree 100% that the newest version is the best. There's a reason that they are moving in the direction that they are moving. If a person wants a Jeep with very nice road manners, a car like ride and lots of gadgets and electronics, the newest one is definitely the way to go.

For what I use my jeep, the newest is not the best, in fact I would consider it a liability

The TJ is the first jeep that I've owned but driven others and still went with a TJ but now I am thinking of selling it for a LJ

Same here. If I get rid of the TJ someday, I would buy an LJ. I’m really not a fan of the JKs and JLs. As others have said, I like my straight six and the simplicity.

Yea I bought my TJ knowing it would turn into a trail rig, at the time I couldnt find a LJ and if I did it was just a bit out of my price range. My TJ is great its got a Dana 44/Dana 30 both locked and nice mods all around. Now I just have to decide to let this go so I can find an LJ

What are some things that attract women to a JL that you like better on a TJ aren't found in a TJ?
  • four doors
  • more room
  • comfortable ride
  • relatively quiet
  • electronic conveniences
  • modern aesthetics
  • car-like interior
