Does anyone have recommendations for a reputable fab shop that can help me with my suspension?
I mean, this is questionable, right?

I’m assuming they just struggled to find space on for coilovers on the stock width axles.

I’m in Pagosa, so west slope would be preferable. I’ve talked to a few local guys and don’t really feel like they’re that knowledgeable.

I took a risk on buying an LJR, that I still feel like was a good deal. I’ll be the first to admit, that I saw coilovers and figured the guy who built it obviously knew more than me so I shouldn’t question his reasoning.

The original owner passed away, and it had been sitting with a guy who was maintaining it every few months, but essentially hadn’t been driven. I’m going through it now and replacing the front end and other wear items as well as fluids, but I don’t know where to begin with the suspension.

I want to move to 37’s, the tires are going to need to be replace anyway. The axles have 35 spline chromoly shafts and it’s geared at 5.13. I know it’s not tons. It needs new tires, but I want to figure out my suspension first.
I have the option to put my old wheels and tires on this rig, which I really like the idea of, but would require an adapter. That could help me give a little more room to work with.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Wow.

@mrblaine put coilovers on @L J's rig with stock width axles and that was a really phenomenal amount of work given the space constraints. But why bother with all that when you can simply install them on the inner C ?

Dang...That lower mount is MESSED UP! I don't think you're going to find anyone who cares as much as you do though, so you may want to learn how to do this stuff yourself. 37's on a TJ (or LJ) is kinda where you need to learn to weld and fab a little, because its too much tire for factory running gear.

That may be the worst location for the lower coilover mount for reasons other than forcing the upper mount higher on the frame than is necessary. The upper arm of the inner C was never meant to be structural in that manner. The weight of the Jeep is carried by the lower.

Though, I suspect they dealt with the too high upper mount by reducing the amount of travel, at least the up travel as evidenced by how little shaft is showing.

Are there any better pictures of @L J’s setup here on the forum? Trying to wrap my head around what’s salvageable here.

I can weld a little. By weld, I mean I can melt metal together.

This seems like not the right job to start with though. At least not without guidance from someone who really knows what’s up.

If you can tack it where you want it, and pay someone to burn it in right, that will get you much farther than letting someone else take your money and just eff it up the same or more than than it already is. Do some research, don't buy anything yet. Look around at some of the builds going on. There are some guys who are building around the "basics" of making a balanced rig. You'll do well to learn those basics (if you don't already know).

The basic building blocks and the expensive stuff is there...if you stick with 35's. You might have to buy some new towers, and spend some time cutting...but that will be time well spent. If you let your wallet lead...you'll get sick of this rig and it will be sold as well.

If you want 37's...Might as well budget for some axles too. You won't have to worry about fixing what is there, cuz its all coming off anyway.

Well. I also bought another TJR on BAT, was not expecting to win at all. This red one might end up with my father in law. I don't know. I'll at least have another Jeep while I work on this one. Definitely going to need to sell a vehicle or two though.

i forgot it’s after Easter, It’s always cool seeing the over built rigs getting trailed back after EJS. last year i saw the bilstein rigs.

My main wheeling buddy killed his there. Smacked his rear pumpkin hard enough to rotate it. I'm bummed (not as bummed as him), we're out almost every week. Said at least 2 months on parts. He was 1/2 way through Pricket and had to make it out in 4lo, with only front wd
