TJ bare metal floor question

I’ve had my jeep for a while and have never had carpet. I was sweeping off the floor and noticed something. It appears to be some sort of cap piece of the floor. There is some sort of River like material on it that you can sink your thumb nail in. I’ll attach a picture. Question is, can I scrape this off? Or did it serve a propose? Thanks

It is a plug for a hole in the tub, there are several.

Specifically, those are holes for the robots to hold onto the tub during the manufacturing process.

Many humans have removed them for drainage. Rumor has it that the oval JK floor plugs will fit the TJ holes.

I removed mine to sand/paint the floors.

I bought these replacements. They fit my 05.

Hmmm I’m very familiar with the plugs but these seem to have metal under it? If you zoom in you can see where I chipped a piece off and you can see the metal under it. The drain plugs I have removed are a lot smaller.

It's just a plug. Some are round and some are oblong.

We have over 20 years documented of people doing it. Try harder!

Aim a heat gun at it for a minute and it scrapes off with little effort. The metal portion has some sort of locking tabs on the bottom of the tub. Mine were rusted enough they just snapped off. They really come up very easy with some heat, but, don't expect to reuse them. I suppose you could try but these aren't intended to be removed.

The plugs I linked are a different style, but fit the holes in my 05's floor.

Ok. Noticed a little rust on floor pan. After sanding what primer should I use to prevent rust? I would prefer a grey color if possible. I am lost when it comes to the different types of primers. Basically I just want something on there to prevent the rust as I would have to order the paint later.

I used ACE Hardware Rust Stop in Stone Gray Satin to paint the underside of my trailer lid. Claims no primer needed. I've used it and their Satin Black on several items with great results. It goes on really smooth.

Well, I guess. It’s kind of a paint and primer in one. They may make a specific rust stop primer, I’m not sure.

I would use a zinc-chromate etching primer on properly cleaned and prepped bare metal followed by paint.

Sorry, I’m trying to fix multiple things at once. I do plan on painting but later, I was the looking at primer first then later painting

Very few primers will protect the metal without a top coat.
