What did you do to your TJ today?

I took the Jeep out for a drive.

As I mentioned above, the transmission issues are nearly gone now that there is fresh oil in the deep oil pan.

I took it out on the freeway. At 60mph, the RPMs are about 2300-2400. I probably need a regear at some point.

I'm still having cooling system issues. Around town, it was consistently around 210. When I got on the freeway, it crept up to above 210. It didn't overheat and go into the red, but it definitely get hotter than I would like. Ambient temperature is about 85*. I know there's still a ton of rust in the cooling system, and the coolant/water mix right now is probably close to 30/70. I just really need to do the full cooling system flush again and then see how the operates.

I just drove it around for 40 minutes just to drive around because it is fun to drive and puts a smile on my face. Top down, doors off of course.
 
You were not joking around at all saying to give it a few days. I took it for about a 40 minute drive today and pretty much all the transmission issues that I had before have gone away. No more high shifting and no more indecisive shifting. I also have to put another quart of trans fluid in the oil pan.

There’s just something about getting that fresh fluid throughout the system that just makes it run so much better!

That’s pretty normal… Mine does exactly the same thing just a little below to 210 in the city, and it creeps up to just a hair above 210 on the highway… That’s where it supposed to run!… trust me if you’ve got the proper radiator cap on it if it gets too hot, you’ll know it… It’s a pressurize system…

Mine was higher than that. It was closer to the next line over than it was for 210. It was high enough that I'm not comfortable with taking it on longer trips right now.
 
Napa HM oil change, supertech filter, thought I'd just check & see if the oil pan bolts were tight...well they weren't!! Actually all quite loose, so maybe the rear main isn't as bad as I thought.
Also liked how thick the Napa oil seemed even at 90° ambient temp.

I have Ultragauge and it works great. Have them in three Jeeps. Been using one for years. I too need to get used the temp and what I’m comfortable with. I have all the parts to replace basically everything but the radiator in the garage. Trying to decide if I need to run a cleaner through it first or not.

If everything is working, but old, I think doing the cleaner first would be the right way. If things are not working, I would replace the parts and then do the cleaner.
 
Nothing big, but installed two recovery hooks up front, tightened the KC lights, checked to see if the hose I put together had any leaks, checked to see if the York compressor had oil in it. The other thing I did was remove the drain valve from the air tank and replaced it with a plug. Was concerned it wouldn’t take much to hit that drain valve on something and ruin the valve and tank.

I replaced all of the rear control arms. Thanks to the guys that made YouTube videos of the procedure, I was able to do it in a couple of hours. Two key tips that I highly recommend: 1) use heat if the fasteners don't break loose easily, instead of screwing around with trying to brute force them loose. 2) chock the wheels both front and back, release the parking brake to let the jeep settle onto the chocks, then reset the parking brake. This kept the axles lined up so the bolts went back through the new control arms without having to ratchet strap the axle around to line the holes back up. YMMV but it worked for me.
 
I checked the transmission pan. And of course, the bolt that I was concerned about is leaking. There is this thing in the way where I couldn't get the torque wrench on it. I used a combination wrench so I have no idea if I over tightened it, or under tightened it.

Anyone know what this part is? If I can get it out of the way, I can probably get a torque wrench on it.
