Thoughts on a direction forward

A friend just bought a 30k mile LJR. Unfortunately, it came with a RE Long-arm kit installed. The Jeep is sitting on 35" tires and has an excessive amount of gap in the wheel wells. Because of that he wants to remove the 5.5" springs and drop down to a 4" spring. I told him that Currie 4" springs, below, would be his best option. I've also told him he'll likely need a body lift. Does this make sense?

That's likely what I would do to reduce the ride height in that situation. I have those same coils on mine.

Depends on what the RE springs are really doing. Internet lore suggests they ride a bit taller than advertised.

Oh I’ve seen pics of RE springs being significantly shorter than Currie. They must be pretty stiff then.

OP states 4”. I’m guessing it’s a discontinued spring.

If he’s willing to sacrifice uptravel to drop ride height, I say he just goes to a 4” spring.

I don’t really see a benefit to a body lift on a RE long armed LJ.

He will, but won't know what until we can measure for shocks.

No body lift planned. Just holding that in reserve.

Agreed. It's a weird setup. Shocks are 10" travel. 6" up travel on the front and 3.75" up travel on the rear.

Fenders depending you might not need the BL.

I replaced my 4" Procomp springs with 4" Curries and gained two inches.

I'm running stock arms and they bind up before I hit anything including the bump stops. Need to fix that before I rip off brackets.
