What did you do to your TJ today?

Been wanting to take some play out of the steering box for years. Pulled the front bumper, OBA pickup, lights etc and took a little less than a quarter turn out. OMG.. wish I did this ages ago. Steering feels so much more... modern. Left the slightest amount of play in it. Huge return on very small investment of time and energy.

All secure in Sector Seven. Carry on and carry forth...

Sunday morning..
Removed rear driveshaft, skid plate, transfer case, and very noisy AX5 tranny.

Replacement tranny arrives on Tuesday.
Also order new correct skid plate bolts and 5 new u-joints.

I had gear noise while driving at speed coming from the front diff that got MUCH louder if I engage 4wd. Also noticed a bit of play at the pinion, both up and down and in and out. The local shop that did the diff/gears is hot garbage.

Anywho, my work buddy came over and was shocked that I'd been driving it these several years without further issue. When we pulled the diff it just plopped out into our hands. New pinion bearing and .004 worth of shims on each side of the carrier (.008 total). Runs a decent pattern now but must importantly no more noises while cruising at highway speeds or when I engage 4wd!

It's like a new jeep. It's weird what you can get used to. Now I'm sure I'm going to find other noises though lol.

I Started a post. then got distracted by life.

So, I will post now.

"New" Jasper 4.0, all new braking system, new windshield wiper motor, new radiator, new carpet, new winch, all new stock suspension parts (meaning everything), new body mount bushings, new tires (31's) and rims, new 4.10's, and new Best Top (added by PO), as well as rhino liner paint job (by PO) So..... New Jeep?

I am now 100% clear on the, just empty every pocket.

That being said, I do love this little Jeep.

And I am totally dedicated to keeping her as "stock" as possible.

Trust me I have looked at every lift option and had them all quoted. But the stock look just appeals to me more. Easy trails and trips to town that's her future.

Wife said, "why didn't you just buy a new one?"

LOL

The Jeep of Theseus

To preserve the ship, any wood that wore out or rotted was replaced; it was thus unclear to philosophers how much of the original ship remained, giving rise to the philosophical question of whether it should be considered "the same" ship or not. Such philosophical questions about the nature of identity are sometimes referred to as the "Ship of Theseus" paradox.

Nice reference!

Nice reference!

The wife and I have kicked around many names for this little jeep.

I have a feeling this will stick! To funny.

Got the driver seat in. The damn seat buckle mechanism that winds it up is actually higher on the driver side than the passenger by almost 2 inches

I had to cut the seat track and move it’s mounting position forward by two inches which was not ideal but it worked.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to mount the driver side seat buckle thing any lower? It’s connected to the roll bar from what I can tell

Specifically this little dude. Maybe I can buy a smaller one? But those two may not seem like much but it would be nice. Either way these seats kick ass and are super comfy plus they hold you in. Can’t wait to try them off roading
