Just came back from an off road trip and my rev limiter is kicking in 3800-4200 rpm then gives power all the way to 5k. No codes. Speedo and airbag light are freaking out too. Any ideas?

It's not a rev limiter if it lets you rev to 5k. Did you mess around in water/mud on your trip?

Not really. Went through one puddle but went super slow cause I knew I had to get under the jeep when I got home cause the speedo started messing up. Most of it was like this.

If your electronics are freaking out and it's probably misfiring between 3800+4200 rpm, I'm guessing you've got a harness connector that got jiggled/pulled loose or a ripped off ground or something like that. Try letting it idle while you go along the harness pulling and jiggling to see if you can replicate the issues.

When we get really stuck in the snow I've filled/forced snow into my speedometer sensor connector.

It finally died and I replaced it. Need more snow for another check.

I found some wires pulled out about 5 inches out of some loom tubing. I checked them for any damage and put them back in. No damage. Drove it to work this morning and all problems have ceased. I'm guessing that further down the loom, a wire may have some damage and putting it back in caused it to stop grounding out. Gonna give it a few more days to make sure no problems continue and I will put some extra loom and zip-tie it to frame real secure and high as possible. The loom does T off of the speedo gear wire loom.

Went ahead and investigated the wire loom. Just couldn't get out of my head that there may be exposed wires. I couldn't get all the way up to the transmission but just before the transfer case I did find this electrical-tape repair on the wires completed by the previous owner. Gonna cut those out and do a proper waterproof soldered fix to eliminate possible corrosion or connection issues. If the problems don't come back from there. I'm gonna consider it fixed.

Are you sure that's a PO fix.
I thought factory (3 wire) splices were wrapped in tape.
Maybe only grounds.

Didn't know that. I assumed after I saw electric tape it was non factory. Also I unwrapped one and the insulation was damaged underneath. But good info non the less.

Don't solder any fixes either. Factory doesn't do that. Use crimps with adhesive heat shrink.

If it looked like black electrical tape, then probably not factory.
What I'm thinking of looked more like duct tape, but that might have been on my CJs.

Factory used both black vinyl electrical tape and black fabric tape.

Fixed all the wires. Speedo is still jumping around occasionally. Rev limiter is working properly at 5500 ish. Still scratching my head on the speedo. It started malfunctioning at the same time as the limiter
