What did you do to your TJ today?

A GPS ???? Who are you and what have you done with @Zorba ? 😂

I've been using GPSes since well before most people had ever heard of them or knew what one was. Old 1 channel Magellan GPS "engine" (AKA raw circuit board) installed in autonomous science equipment. Then came the 5 channel Magellan, but it was a BFD when the 10 channel Garmin came out, that was a fraction of the size of the old Magellans. The Garmin engine was even enclosed in a Faraday can, unlike the open circuit boards we had used before. Then Garmin came out with a 10 channel unit integrated into an antenna, which meant we didn't have to run coax cable between the two - just a 3 wire serial interface. We had so many of the previous GPS and antenna as separate pieces, that I actually did my own integration and put the engine into a small potted enclosure mounted to the antenna - until those were lost/broken/whatever (autonomous science gear takes a beating), then bought more of the integrated units. To the best of my knowledge, Garmin still makes them.

Not a lot, installed these little zipper pullers. I thought the color matched fairly well.

4.56 would be excessive and you'd hate it on the highway for 33's with your 32RH. 4.56 is commonly recommended and appropriate for 33's with a manual transmission but not for the 32RH which doesn't have an Overdrive like 5th gear with a 5-speed manual transmission.

4.56 with 33's and 5 Spd is spot on perfect

4.10 would be a nice ratio for 33's with your 32RH. I miss the hell out of my previous TJ's 32RH. :(

You’ve recommended 4:10 to me in the past but when I went to the local 4x4 shop to schedule the job he said that I would hate 4:10 and that 3.73 would the best choice for my 97 4.0l 32rh in our area… I cancelled the install to do more research but have been able to determine why he thinks the 3.73 are better… Any thoughts?

3.73 is what the factory thought was ideal for 30's which is what most TJs came with with the 32RH. And all that came with the Dana 44 rear axle came with 3.73. If 3.73 was ideal for 30's how can it also be ideal for 33's that need more rpms? Personally, while 3.73 would "work", I'd choose 4.10.

Have the new bung brazed in, it makes for an easier install that is less likely to damage the pan. I welded my first bung into my previous TJ's pan and it went well. The second time I welded one in it was for my current TJ's pan and it went bad. All I seemed to be able to the last time do was blow holes in the pan lol. A new bung was then brazed into a new pan for me and I really liked how the brazing turned out.

That's probably solid advice, although *I* won't be doing anything. I have a buddy who is highly skilled, I trust him to use whatever method will work. Last time I believe he welded it, but I should probably have more ownership in the process.

My 97 auto came with the dana 44 but I have 3.55's. Regearing keeps getting deprioritized but it needs to happen. I'm a little surprised you're recommending 4.10s for 33's, or was that because he said he was in the mountains? I figured I was going 4.56 when the time came.

3.73 didn't come along until 1998, 1997 models came with 3.55 or 3.07. 3.55 wasn't quite enough so it was replaced with 3.73.

I had the equivalent to your desired 4.56 and 33's, my previous TJ had 4.88 and 35's. The highway rpms were too high, I spent my long trips in the slow lane with my 32RH. I only had 4.88 with 35's and 32RH because I installed that ratio for 35's and my previous 5-speed transmission. Then I replaced the 5-speed with the 32RH. If $$$ had been no object I would have regeared to 4.56 for the 35's after installing the 32RH.

I know it varies from place to place, but what range would I expect to pay for a regear?
