I have a 2006 TJ Sport with the 4.0 and 6speed. I also have the stock steering box and setup. I am utilizing the ZJ steering upgrade as well.
My power steering gear box has started to leak and I want to look into options for replacement. It leaks not enough to make a puddle but enough to lower the level a bit after a long drive. I have no issues occasionally topping it off but want to avoid a total failure.
I am hoping to complete a cross country off road trip to Moab in the summer and want to make sure the Jeep is up to speed before then. That being said I have the below questions…
1. It is a slow leak so would it be okay to proceed by topping it off as needed? Or am I risking a total failure at some point?
2. Looking online I do not see any seal kits or rebuild kits available it looks like the only way to go is to buy a new/remanufactured model. Is this true?
3. Is it worth upgrading at all? I run 35in tires on a 3.5in lift kit right now and plan to keep that setup far into the future. Would a hydro assist system be overkill or worth the upgrade.
Looking for the best option here while hopefully not breaking the bank. However i do believe in doing it once doing it right. Any recommendations or information helps!
