Jeep Clubs?

I did the Pumpkin Run 2 years 1988 & 89. Did the Icebreaker those two years also. I don't remember what the name of the mud hop I did was. I'll try to dig thru some old pictures in the new few months and see if I have any pictures. I know I've got some of one of the Pumpkin runs & some playdays that we used to put on.

...

I was a few years prior to that. I ran the Pumpkin run 4-5 times (finished high enough to get a trophy one year - like 3rd or 4th?), and the Ice Breaker a few. But it was very early 80's.

Early 80's I was in Germany & then Alaska... 83-84 I was at Ft Lewis then 84-87 I was back in Germany. I was at APG from 87-90 and was an instructor in a NCO Academy. Then went to Korea from 90-91 and Ft Ord, CA from 91-92 when I got out of the Army.

So we just missed each other. I was driving a 1986.5 Nissan Hardbody pickup with a 2" suspension & 3" body lift with Q78 Ground Hawg tires. They were 36" tall but only about 10" wide. That truck would shit & get.

Wish I could remember the name of the club I used to belong to & the name of the shop I used to work at.

I lied. I was in elementary school in the early eighties…

🙄

We sort of derailed the tread...

It happens.........

Yep, I think @inkedrose got his answer...

Clubs aren't what they used to be due to social media IMO. It's way easier to just find like minded people ONLINE and schedule a meetup. I don't know what will happen to brick & mortar type clubs. An example, my club at one point had over 30 members and we're down to 12 right now.
Now some clubs near cities don't seem to have as much of a issue but like many here have said finding that RIGHT group is hard.

I ended up doing a run with a couple people I met on that other forum. Attitude was "A group with no leaders" which I like. Two other rigs, one I'd run with again. The Club thing doesnt do it for me but meeting a few new people is cool. The main guy I've wheeled with last several years moved out of state and my other main wheeling buddy broke his Jeep and can't afford to fix it for awhile so meeting a few strangers is good for now

I helped run a club with my uncle for a while, and it still technically exists I guess. I still run the sticker for it because we were proud of it back when.

The problem is all of the drama and bs surrounding it. So many different people wanting different things so it was impossible to get a good group together. We would post like "no stock jeeps" or something to that effect and still have stock people join us lol. Ended up for some long nights of winching.

Then you have all the people who want to join who want to be leader and know all there is to know about everything. We had a guy claim to be a professionally trained rescuer-wincher-person-thing. He ended up flipping the brand new jku at the time on its side.

So to answer the question- I'd avoid FB groups and pretty much any social media jeep group lol. This forum seems to have really cool people who want to just wheel and have a good time, so search around for *people* not *groups*.

Just my $.02

One of my frequent wheeling spots has a stream that flows into Clear Creek. Coors brewery happens to sit on Clear Creek, which is the source for Coors "Rocky Mountain spring water". Now, I know I just opened the door for many potential jokes having to do with peeing in the creek and Coors tasting the way it does, but I happen to love Coors Banquet beer and have consumed more than my share of it in my lifetime. For this reason, I never pee in that stream.

That is absolutely false! Having worked at Coors for 5 years I can tell you that the water is sourced from springs around the property. They don't pull ANY water from that creek. In fact, they put used treated water back into it.

I was in Germany 87-89 and did my Air Assault course at Ft. Ord in 91.

Small world.

Still derailed!

I did my Air Assault course in AK in 1983. I was at Ft Ord from 91-92 and got out when they were offering the SSB for us midterm soldiers. I had a 1986 Nissan Hardbody pickup with a cap on it that was Black & Gray. Had 35" Goodyear Wranglers on it.

I stayed in the area for a year after I got out too.
