It's a "rider" I didn't take on my policy because I don't live in the wild. I actually had to pull my policy and take a look. It's offered for my home but not needed.

It's interesting that insurance companies would be canceling wildfire policies though...

It depends on where you live I guess. There is no guarantee anything you own can be insured. I get the anger and some of it is warranted but at the end of the day they are a business. Part of the problem is that homes are appreciating much faster than their investments (we can into why but it's not a natural occurrence) and their risk rises as that gap opens. They are in business to make money and if there is money to be made in insuring houses in high risk fire areas I'm sure they'd keep taking that money.

Edit, so I did a little digging on the guys assertion that Phoenix has been "listed" as a high risk area for wildfires. First, Phoenix is one of 9 cities that make up the Phoenix Metro area. It has a very low wildfire risk as it's urban and surrounded by other municipalities. I found a AZ forrest management statement that 22% of the homes in the Phoenix Metro area "could be at risk" for wild fires in the next 50 years. Keep in mind that the Phoenix Metro area is 93 miles across from the SE to the NW parts of the valley. The specific areas where there is a "remote" chance of wildfires are on the edges to the north and extreme east and west areas of the valley.... the 1 to 10 acre lots with the 12,000 SF homes on them with the 10 car garages on the sides of the hills. Sure there are some unincorporated areas with older "homesteads" on them in these areas up against public lands that could burn but that's understandable in almost all cities.

Back in the day when I lived in Boise, I had a friend I went to school with that lost their house to a wild fire up in the "Highlands" area behind the Capitol Building. When they rebuilt it back in the 80's they could no longer get fire insurance. There wasn't an Instagram back then however.
