06 LJ Rubicon Unlimited Rust Question

Hey Everyone, new member here. I bought my LJ Rubicon from a seller on the East coast not long ago. It has around 46,000 miles original miles. The interior and exterior are in near perfect condition, but there is some rust on the undercarriage.. Especially around the wheel assembly.

I have done many upgrades over the last five months or so with the tires, suspension, steering stabilizer, exhaust, etc, but I'm looking for some insight on what to do with some of this rust.. should I work to fix this or replace these parts, or just leave it alone?

Welcome to WTF. Nice looking Jeep.

The rust you showed us isn't pretty, but doesn't necessarily look terrible either. Close ups would help.

Folks on here are going to want pics of your frame. TJ frames rot from the inside out, and are usually a much bigger problem than brake calipers and such.

Surface rust like that is easy to cure. Pick one section at a time and tackle it and in a year or two you will be rust free.

But the frame is a must do. The pic shows pretty heavy rust in a few places so the frame is also ruting away. You have to address this sooner than the surface rust.

there is some rust on the undercarriage.. Especially around the wheel assembly.

Doesn't look too bad, unless someone already painted the frame.
You should scope the inside.

I also have a rust free low mileage LJR. There was some very minor surface rust on the axles which I cleaned up. Rust on the steering knuckles? Didn't even give it a second thought and never will.

Thank you all for the feedback. After a bit of work with the wire brush bit and some rust reformer, it now looks as good as new.

Just keep an eye on the inside of the frame. Scope it clean it out then spray with rust reformer.

Enjoy Nashville. We left in 2007 heard it has changed quite abit since then.
