Jeep idles at 1300-1400 during warmup and settles down to 1100.

As I drive And press the clutch the idle rises from 2000 to 2500 +, sometimes fluctuating and dropping down under 1000.

When I kill the ignition it sounds off as it dies.

The replacement grommet had a slightly larger hole, but the new PCV valve fit correctly. I used the old tube to connect to the new PCV Valve. I assume it has a good seal, but I’m assuming. Can anyone help? I thought I might take the new one off and re-install the old one or replace the short tube as it exits the PCV Valve.

There are two elbows you can get. One has a small hole and one has a larger hole. This is looking at the inside facing the rockers. Did you go from a large to small or vise versa?

Small to large, but the output was the same size as stock. You thinking I have the wrong parts?

One elbow is for the front of the valve cover and one is for the rear. The small hole is for the rear I think.

I see what you mean by small hole. The stock one didn't have a hole near that small. Amazon is saying that part no won’t fit my 2005.

I have the front one on order. It’s called a crankcase vent tube, but I can’t tell from the picture if it’s a large or small hole.

All I know is the hole sizes on the rear PCV were close, maybe 2/3” diameter stock and 3/4” dorman.

Yeah, Amazon is smart but not as smart as Google.
I had the same problem with a grommet once, it was very loose in the valve cover but it was supposed to "fit."

I know this is an old thread but I recently replaced the valve cover gasket on my 06 TJ, and figured I'd replace the PCV/CCV valves and grommets while I was at it. That said, since the replacement, I'm encountering the high idle issue - with idle at around 1300-1400 rpms. A search brought me to this thread. The PCV valve I used was the Dorman 47079. Am I reading this correctly that I really need the Dorman 47057 instead?

Correct.

Thank you for clarifying. When I'd originally looked at that part, every website including AutoZone, O'Reilly, Amazon, etc said the part doesn't fit my 06 TJ and that I needed 47079 instead. I'll pick up the correct one tomorrow and replace it. That high idle just feels weird at stop lights.

Thanks again.

IIRC, the Dorman one doesn't fit quite the same as OEM. I was having leaks around the OEM ones, so I bought new grommets and the Mopar pieces didn't fit in the Dorman grommets. So I bought new Dorman elbows and shelved the Mopar elbows as spares. This is very off hand from early last year.

When I replaced the elbow, I replaced the grommets as well, which were also Dorman. So, the fit was fine with the exception of the high idle. I still have the original PCV elbow I removed which has a lock flap that you can rotate into the notch. Figured I'd keep that as a spare. Though the grommets didn't seem to be damaged, I figured I'd replace them anyway because they had a bunch of oil and gunk.
