I was looking at lower steering shafts for my '98 on Summit Racing's site and saw quite a difference in prices between various brands. I first saw the Lares 552 on the Lares site while looking at new steering boxes and thought since their boxes were well regarded I would get all the parts from them. But after seeing the difference in prices I began to wonder why there was such a big spread.

Lares 552 $85
Crown 52078705 $175
Dorman 425-291 $271

Anyone have any recommendations good or bad regarding any of the above?

I installed and removed the crown since I was the problem not the steering shaft, but it was fine while I ran it.

What I really wanted to know if there anything wrong with the $85 Lares shaft? It’s $100+ cheaper than the other options, and I am a tight wad.

The price point suggests that it is going to be similar to others that folks have complained about over the years with low costs. You seem like the appropriate guinea pig, take one for the team. If not you, then maybe we can get Mac to step up.
