Electric Cooler Chest

Anyone have ideas for an electric cooler brand? Thinking about ordering one during Prime Days. So many brands out there.

Also recommendations on a good size? I’m thinking somewhere in the 30-40 qt range would be a good overall size and fit okay in the LJ.

I went with SetPoint. Probably chinesium like all the rest. I haven’t had any issues, though I think @lBasket did have an issue with that brand.

I use the ARB element 63qt, fits in the back w/o a seat.

IceCo has been getting popular. A friend runs one in a Tacoma but hasn't really had it long enough for durability. Seems nice though. Decent discount if you're an OnX elite member.

I have a Dometic fridge/freezer. Been very happy with it but they aren't for the cost conscious.

Yeah my lid warped and doesn't stay shut anymore. It just sat in my jeep under a car cover (no back window so couldn't have gotten that hot??). I'm not sure what happened to it

I've got this one. It's survived a surprisingly large amount of abuse from rear end collisions, getting covered in mud...Moab, Sand Hollow, two Rubicon trips.

I will say running a 24v upconvertor made a huge difference in temperature regulation. That and running an optima yellow top deep cycle battery.

I do see used fridges all over marketplace and Craigslist.

I have one of an ICECO 68.6QT VL65 Dual Zone Portable Fridge Freezer with the added protective cover. It works great and just fits in the back of my LJ. I also have on of their power banks and it will run off of it all day, so you don't have to worry about your battery running down when the engine is not running. We've had it since 2023 and have taken it camping several times. It has also run weeks/months on end a few times - once when we had too much venison, and most recently when our refirerator/freezer in the kitchen started going bad and we started using it as a second freezer. It's been going for almost three months now.

ICECO is kind of weird, though, as they do not have a consistent look among their offerings, so I think some of their coolers are ICECO branded versions of what everyone else carries. The one I have and the others that look like it with metal shells seem to be exclusive to them, but the plastics ones look like what everyone else sells.

My SetPower is 15qt, which works really well for the Jeep and day trips. It could be smaller actually, IMO, but fits fine in the LJ strapped down, yet I’m a minimalist so I might sell this one since I wouldn’t mind smaller.

I also have a Dometic 105 and a Norcold 45. They’re just too big for the Jeep, but work great. Looked on FB for awhile for a smaller Dometic and they are hard to find and people still wanted an arm and a leg for the smaller ones.

I have an iceco 37 in the jeep and as long as I start it every other day it won't kill the battery. Another iceco 20 in the camper that 200w of solar will keep the batteries charged. My first cooler was a Massimo. It works well but is an energy hog and doesn't really have an eco mode. In the camper it won't even run because it thinks there is low voltage and triggers a fault code.
