Got into a little bit of an accident

Long story short. Got cut off by a girl on her probationary license trying to make an illegal u turn. Cut me off into my lane then stepped on her brakes (she admitted she was looking at the gps). My aftermarket bumper pushed into my passenger fender. So my bumper is all pushed in and my fender. To make matters worse, I thought everything was okay driving wise cause the cops had us pull into a lot 25' away and it drove alright, but it turns out the accident sheared the control arm mount off my axle. The cops hardly looked at my car and I wasn't able to take note of it while they were there.

Am I screwed with the whole axle thing since it wasn't noticed at the scene of the accident? Am I gonna need a whole new axle or is that fixable? Also, my bumper wasn't on the insurance, it doesn't look terrible but it is about half an inch from my fender while the other side that wasn't hit is about 5" away. Accident was her fault though and the Jeep even has collision. I've just never had to deal with something like this.

Damage is not assessed at the scene, a body shop will find all that needs to be fixed and inform the insurance adjuster

I've been through it before but this was a hit and run where someone backed into my 98 BMW passenger door. Whopping $1400 to get that fixed. I'm more curious whether or not the damage to my aftermarket bumper would get covered or not, since that wasn't something stock on the Jeep. And I think they don't cover it unless you tell your insurance company you have it. Also, if they would just replace that side of the axle and not the whole thing.

It's her fault so her insurance company will be covering it. You can't be expected to notify every insurance company in the world everytime you upgrade a part.

Ive broken LCA mounts and it’s not a big deal.

Find a good welder and buy new mounts. A local jeeper and awesome welder did mine for $40, the mounts cost me $100 for upgrades.

They will pay for replacement of aftermarket parts
On axle they will likely quote on replacement of complete axle because of age of jeep they will replace with salvage part

Wow! That some pretty bad rust on the lower control arm mount. Looks like a hole was rusted through.

Maybe it breaking then wasn't all bad . That rust looks pretty intense . I'd hate to have it break at hwy speed.

That rust was a ticking bomb. I'd check the entire undercarriage out and make sure it is safe to drive.

Jeep has been my DD on the highway 30 miles 4 days a week for two months and hasn't let me down yet.. Till now. Even did a 600 mile round trip up to upstate NY and Vermont. I recently had some repair done near the trans pan. That held up well in the accident at least. You should see how much tie wire is holding up my exhaust though

$40!?!?!? Man that’s a deal. I got quoted $280 by a welding shop. Why can’t I find Jeepers in SoCal

Sorry to hear it happened to you. My own jeep is in the shop now being fixed. I would insist on changing the entire axle considering the rust.

I’m not in the insurance business, but they may deny your claim based on the amount of rust there. They might claim it would not have been damaged had it not been severely corroded in the first place, good luck and keep your fingers crossed

I'd hope not. Jeep has been a sound DD for 6 months now. The metal isn't as thin as it looks either. Looks like a clean shear
