Those tabs on the genright bumper are welded from both sides. Does that make a difference?

Well then, I'm glad I asked. So can you offer any suggestions on what I could use on the rear bumper (or frame) that would be suitable as a recovery point?

I saw that as well, and also they are calling them "shackle mounts", which is why I thought it would work as a recovery point. But I don't want to use them if they aren't safe!

Yes, that's how it should be done.

I'd forgotten about that one Jerry, thanks for sharing it (again).

The GenRight ones are welded from both sides, so it sounds like they will actually work as recovery points after all.

That's not a good type shackle tab to use, you don't want to use surface-mounted shackle tabs for vehicle recovery needs. Through-welded shackle tabs that pass completely through the bumper and are welded on both sides are the way to go.

I completely agree @Jerry. That was just the first picture I came across that showed a small Diameter shackle hole with no chamfer. I didn’t think about it misleading someone

Yep, I have Jeeperman bumpers front and rear. They weld the recovery tabs through both sides of the bumper. The rear also has the corner frame reinforcements and a Gen-Right rear crossmember plate. The stock TJ rear frame crossmember is not very thick steel. I don't think you can over-do it when it comes to recovery strength.
