A Story of Indecision and Frivolous Spending

I used to run a 10" bar on the winch guard.

For the record, if one of my best friends hadn't done body work his whole life, I'd be contemplating what to do with my exterior as well. That's why I'm not "afraid" of a little body damage here and there.

That bumper makes me a little nervous. The front of those fenders are pretty vulnerable. I crunched the front of one of mine , and mine are mostly covered. But, that's what no passenger or spotter, and blazing new trails through the woods will get you.

I love that color so much... really I do!

I'm one of those guys where I like both form and function. This thing will always be more of a "exploration" type vehicle more than it will ever be a hard core rock crawler.

By no means do I expect the thing to stay pristine and never get a mark on it.

I've talked to a lot of places about getting wraps, but a full color change wrap is going to be around $2500-$3500 from what I've been told by 5 different shops so far.

That being said, for that price I can get a very good paint job. So, it's looking more and more like I'll repaint the Jeep. Nothing wrong with the paint as it is, I'm just thinking I'd just like to change the color to something different.

Yeah I found the same thing that a wrap was only 1-2000 cheaper which at that point I’d rather paint.

I have a friend that wrapped his 350z in red 3m vinyl and it looked amazing. He had it on for about a year and it looked pristine up until he took it off. I think it cost him around $600 in vinyl to do it. He did it with the help of another guy and it only took them about two days working on and off.

I'm thinking that if someone who has never done it before can make a 350z flawless, with all of it's rounded edges and curves, a Wrangler would be very, very doable.

The only place that looked odd was the engine bay because it was originally blue and he wrapped it red, so it looked like the Spider-mobile when he popped the hood.

Yep, that's my thought exactly. Why would I pay that much money for a wrap when I'll have to replace it in 7 years, whereas a good paint job should last the life of the vehicle if I take care of it.

I'm really wanting to paint it red now... I think that color would just look so good with the silver Pintlers. Problem is, I'm not sure what color red. I'm thinking firecracker red that was found on the JKs and JLs possibly.

I've considered wrapping it myself since I'm very good with applying large vinyl graphics, but it would be time consuming for sure. Still at this point I'm thinking I'll just end up repainting it.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to change the wheels to find a wheel that looks good on the khaki????

I think Red would look awesome with your silver Pintlers.
After I get back from Moab in May, I'm thinking about changing my wheels to AR23 polished aluminum.

That's what I keep thinking too! Well, I've got a while to decide on it and get some quotes. If I paint it, it's going to be this next Fall / Winter.

I think yours would look good with those wheels!

I put the AR23 wheels on my Samurai. I think will look good on a Red TJ. :)

Finished installing the Savvy front bumper today.

I was going to get some KC Daylighters for it, but I'm not particularly fond of how ridiculously large they are.

I'm not going to go dig it up but I am fairly certain you mentioned a Warn Zeon at some point which is what generated my caution about test fitting before powder coat. You are missing the tow hooks that go under those light mounts. Putting that winch on a rig of this caliber is an extreme violation of a build philosophy. PS- once you toss on the tow hooks, you'll understand the poor value of your free thimble.

Yes, I realized the tow hooks were missing (left them in one of the drawers of my work bench) after installing it and taking those photos. I promptly remove the bolts and put them back on, so they are on there now.

As for that thimble, it's only on there temporarily. At some point I am going to order some TRE synthetic rope in a different color, at which point I'll address that issue as well.
