35s or larger on a Dana 30?

Ok guys any one have experience running 35's+ on a dana 30. I know I should have a 44 or better, but can you get by with a dana 30 running 37x12.50 's ,an Aussie locker and the regular inline 4.0. As long as I'm not bouncing it all over. My research cane back both ways.trying to get by for a temp period.
 
I wouldn’t see any problems as long as you don’t do anything crazy. Should be alright. I know some will say absolutely not but only you know your driving skills so(y) I have a friend who runs 35 12.50 on stock axles and stock gears 4.10 with 2.5cyl. It doesn’t have much power but as far as breaking stuff, he hasn’t yet and saving up for his 5.13 gear

A Dana 30 is not even CLOSE to being up to handling 37" tires. And there is no way to make it worthy of 37's. Not with 30 spline 4340 chromoly axle shafts, not with sleeves, not with gusseting the C's, and not with a truss.

35's? All day long. 35's with a locker? Replace the OE 27 spline shafts with 4340 27 spline chromoly axle shafts like from Revolution Gear.

Regardless of the ball joint yokes, the compromises of a 37" on stock width axles and an intact body become very meaningful compared to what happens with 35s.

Are they going to fail immediately? No. They'll overstress the axle and things will fail over time. Like jumping berms with a 30/44, things might be fine the first few times but stuff starts to bend.

Pidgy, I wouldn't run 37s at all if you wheel in Central Oregon. You will break things in short order doing Cline, Rim Butte, or Hoodoo.

I wouldn't go that far. I know several who have run 37s on a 30 or 44. Depends on how you wheel. The PNW, or flat midwest, a guy can make them live. Where you are where it's dry and big rocks? Certainly not.

I don't recommend it, but saying it's "not even CLOSE", is overstating it. Just depends on the owner and his intentions.
 
I run 35”s on a trussed, locked, chromoly HP30. Never any issues. But I’m not an idiot and stand on the throttle when wheeling and I plan on running 37”s. I have a buddy who ran that set up. Never an issue if you aren’t stupid with the gas.

Depends on lift, and bump stops. But theoretically, 1” up travel. A 37 to a 35 is 2” of more tire, which is 1” higher in ride hight, which means 1” less in up travel.

Yes I wheel here alot. Lots of rocks and step- ups. Not afraid to goose it abit, but I hate it when things start bouncing. Usually means carnage is close ny. Thx.

You also need to think about the wheel opening as well as the travel arc of the wheel as the axle flexes. You will lose more than an inch because of where the larger tire will start hitting areas that the smaller tire didn't.
