Will a Dana 30 handle 35s on stock splines with a LS V8?

@Woodrow what brand would you recommend for chromoly shafts ?

And why is 27 spline weaker than a 30 ?

Just shaft diameter thicker on a 30 ?

The diameter is larger, the splines are basically the same pitch so larger shaft = more splines, or vise versa. 30 spline are the stock size for a dana 44, but you can get a 30 spline dana 30 locker and run custom 30 spline chromoly axles in a Dana 30.

I just upgraded to chromoly shafts f/r when i had the axles regeared with elockers. I picked up a secondhand set of ten factory 4140 for the rear Dana 44 and yukon 4340 front axle kit for the Dana 30.

Keep in mind if you run spacers/adapters the studs that come with the ten factory axle are pilot point and don't have enough threads for the lug nuts on spacer/adapters.

I'm no expert. I have Yukon 27 spline CrMo shafts in my Dana 30 now and they have held up to locked 35s and some rock crawling with my stroker motor and 5:1 Atlas case.
Revolution Gear and Axle is well regarded here. Their USA made shafts were supposed to be excellent but are no longer available. I saw some 30 spline USA made RGA axles shafts with the larger 1350 U-joints in the parts for sale section of this site recently. Their discovery series are made off shore but still OK, I think. There are other options including RCV shafts (those are EXPENSIVE).

Physics.

Yes. Strength varies with cross sectional area. The other thing is material. CrMo is stronger than mild steel.

Yea idk lol like i said I tend to over analyze things too much sometimes... I suppose if its going to snap it's going to do it almost immediately

This is wishful thinking. Everyone knows that the will snap at the worst time possible. It might last 50k miles of hardcore off road and leave you stranded in sand 75 miles from anything. Thats murphy's law.

Well if your 27 splines have held up I think I should be fine with what I do and 27 spline I'll shop around and see if I can find some thanks for everyone's input I appreciate it !

Looks like there is Revolution discovery ,Yukon, USA standard gear, and ten factory.... anyone have a preference one over the other ?

Looks like rcv 27 spline are same price are they as strong as chromoly?

Stronger. But just know some people complain about them clicking when used on a DD. They are stronger because you're eliminating the u-joint for a CV joint.

I'm not finding 27 spline RCV shaft...

I'm use to clicking my aussie lunchbox locker clicks alot everytime I turn nothing new to me although half the time I can't hear it because music is turned up

Chromoly looks like anywhere from 1200 to 1500

Rcv is 1400..... may just go for rcvs I've been reading through form sections trying to determine what's best for my application which is mild/ rocky trails and alot of highway travel

The Yukon axle set I bought from Rusty's was like $525, but didn't come assembled, so as long as you are good assembling the ujoints and such they are a bit cheaper.

Ten factory is 525.00
Yukon is 1102.89

Quite the price difference I prefer quality over price

Anyone running east coast gear supply shafts ? They have a 10yr warranty and are really cheap $540.00 only thing is 760x u joints can't be greased but they say the 760x are stronger than a regular U joint

The 5-760x u joint showed up with the Rubicon in 2003. It is, and has been, the replacement axle shaft ujoint for all TJs and XJs since then.

O ok 👍 also just found the axles revolution no longer has in stock. They are 27 spline with 1350 u joints for 1151.99
