Up-travel questions

A little bit of tire rub on the body/frame should be fine. Tires are soft enough for a kiss.

Take pics of where the track bar is hitting. What is happening when you fully raise the axle?

Feels like the axle should be pulled backwards. It shouldn't take much. Double check the pinion while you do this since you are shortening the drive shaft a hair. Same with the axle center. There are several moving pieces to keep track of that all effect each other.

That will take a bit. My lowers are all the way in. Need to grind down the threaded shaft a bit. Going to try one turn in on all and recheck.

First check the track bar length and the pinion. Make sure those are where they need to be before grinding.

Blaine has a really nice how-to for centering the axle.
 
Well one turn on the lowers and resetting pinion within 1* of where it was before. I went from 3-1/4” to 2-5/8 on needed Bs. Surprisingly it didn’t Change my tire to fender clearance by much more tha 1/8”.
Looks like one more turn and it might get me there.

Incidentally, I also realized that if I had something other than the squishy JKS body lift, I could go higher before the body gets in the way. Things I want to address on the next couple rounds of refinements...
We had one in the other day, easily less than an inch of body lift realized.

When flexed with 2” BS I have 1/2” between my tire and rear fender when turned. Not much room to spare for a new tire and moving the axle back.

What do we do about tire rub on shock mount?

3.75 back space wheels. It had 1-1/4” spacers too. That where I ran into tire clearance on fender before as well as very hard steering when front was locked. Those spacers have caused me a lot of trouble. Lol.
 
So I need one more turn on these crappy RE arms. Quality double adjustable arms are worth it. Just need to utilize what I have since these are less than a year old, ugh. 😪

So what are your thoughts on shortening these. Do you think I can just trim the threaded stud and female end? I know the stud will be fine to trim. But the female end is only threaded for the first 1-1/4”. Trimming an 1/8” to 3/16” be ok?

From a quality standpoint is there a reason to not use MC springs? I certainly do not want to spend money poorly.

My objection with the MetalCloak design is twofold. First, they cripple the spring by intentionally collapsing the upper half of the coils: this effectively lowers the upper coil perch and creates a shorter spring - are they still actually advertising that as a benefit? - which is not only kind of counterproductive, but also has no practical advantage. They like to say that it helps to keep the spring from unseating, but designing a spring to keep itself from unseating makes very little sense when so many other methods are available that don't require a design change to the spring. My second objection to the design is the result of the collapsed upper coils: the lower coils have to do all the work...and there are only five of them. Phrased another way: they reduce the number of effective coils for no reason, to no benefit.

How many threads does the jam nut have?

Thanks for the reply. Since my springs now show 3.75” of lift, I doubt I will notice a 1/4” raise with the Currie 4”.
Those MC shocks are very interesting though.

Though if the valving is poor for a TJ, then the additional travel may not be worth it. The valving seems to be a persistent mystery, especially here with all the 5000x love.

The available travel in an off the shelf shock valved for a TJ in that price range. I have not looked into shocks much yet until I finish up getting my arms set. Then I will know how much travel I can use.
