What did you do to your TJ today?

This isn't a Day project, but I finally got mine back on her wheels. I hung up a brake, so while I was waiting for parts, I decided to install my new-to-me Currie control arms. And, while I was at it, threw a JKS rear trackbar in to match the front. Whew...that was a job! Lots of measurements and cycling suspension to get it right. What a difference though...Probably just going from 15 year old, worn factory stuff to brand new bushings, but smooth is an understatement. It feels so tight and nice...like my 2017 Colorado with 18,000 miles on it. The Jeep has 140,000! Very happy with that part of the job.

However...My brake is STILL hanging up, though not as bad. Thought it was the Parking brake that was all plugged full of clay. Guess not, cuz its all clean and new. I also haven't adjusted it yet...So Its gotta be a caliper. I'll put a new line on and see where that takes us. Probably should just buy a caliper too...

new U joints in both drive shafts (order the dana/spicer, no more moog crap).

Re-gearing is done, going from 3.07's to 4.88's feels like I put a new motor in, no more downshifting on the slightest of inclines. Feels like I could pull stumps out now. Not frig'n cheap though :(

New soft top on order, got sick of buying other people crap. I ordered the Sierra Sailcloth, less than 400 bucks Canadian.

I got an OEM air intake from Daveysjeeps and swapped out the cold air the P.O. had in.

Last week I forded a river just a little too fast and sucked up a ton of water. Hopefully this will help me avoid that at least a little!

Installed a Currie currectlync with Durango steering box a few weeks ago and changed out my ball joints. Then lowered from 2" BL to 1.25" and installed a 1" MML.

Busted my t case shift linkage lowering it and my axle seals seem to be leaking now as well. Otherwise a successful weekend.

is the durango steering box upgrade a direct bolt in or did you have to make it work??

Installed new U Joints and ball joints (both spicer). U joints and ball joints were SHOT. It was a rough go, but got it all done.

I'm sure this is well known around these parts, but if you toss the ball joints in the freezer for an hour or two and heat up where the ball joints go with a torch, they slide right in with a few tiny taps of a hammer. After struggling to get those puppies out, the smoothness of getting them in was so nice.

What is the advantage of using the Durango steering box?

Other than a direct bolt-on for the 97-02 models there really isnt one. It was set up for a vehicle with IFS therefore it uses bushings instead of bearings. Not really an upgrade in my book.

I got the Bestop Highrock mirrors that are the 03-06 styling. I can't compare them to the OEM mirrors of that style, and they are completely different than the OEM 97-02 style mirrors.

Having said that, they are not bad. It was less than $100 for the pair. I went with the newer style because the whole mirror doesn't move, just the glass part inside the body of the mirror. I reckon that will be better in the wind than the style where the whole mirror moves and gets loose eventually.

The OEM mirrors were hit by hail. View attachment 93536

You both know this. But I just wanted to overstate - don't buy cheap mirrors. I learned the sort of hard way. I bought a set off ebay and they are not only complete plasticky junk. The mirror was chipped. But I didn't have high hopes for $18. They were the early style. I'm going to just paint mine.

I prefer the early style. As they move when hit. Or can be moved out of the way. All of my SUV's have had the solid mirror casing. And I can't tell you how many I had to replace when they got hit by passing cars while parked. I don't know that the early models would survive a hard hit. But at least they move and flex out of the way. And can be moved out of the way when you park on a tight street with fast traffic.

I have a nephew that used to drive my Yukon. And I can't tell you how many mirrors he went thru. lol.
