Making my Jeep Wrangler TJ more comfortable

I have been driving jeeps for twenty something years now. Sometimes as my primary daily driver, usually not. I was never made aware that the words, Comfort, Performance, Economical or Convenience were ever associated in any way what so ever with a Jeep.

Words such as Capable, Cool, Rugged and Spartan are more Jeep related.

Want comfort? Buy a Town Car.

Town cars ride nice. Hard to get out of the sand when they get stuck

Stock seats break my ass. I looked for options for a while and finally settled on seats from a Hyundai Tiburon. They are very comfortable, supportive and have adjustable height and lumbar support. It was easy to make some quick brackets for the Jeeps seat tracks. There are some other good aftermarket seats but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. My total cost was around $175.
Plus they look really good.

Tiburon seats for me too. I'm just about to replace these with another set that I installed seat heaters in. Installing the heaters and the seats themselves is a pretty straight forward job. I've found them for as little as $35 each at an auto wrecker.

I've bought 2 sets from an '03 and I from an '04. I'm sure any from that general era work.

In my case I lost it. I can't even remember how the original tilt function worked (lever on the seat I think). Anyway, I've fabricated a free standing and out of the way lever/cable/pulley system for the ones I'm about to put in. I'll post it when I get it done.

There are a few Tiburons at the local U-Pull, and I've thinking about getting a set (would be under $100). @PCO6, do the ones you have tilt forward enough for someone to get in the back?

I have them in my TJ and LJ plus I put them in a 2 dr. XJ that I had. I've taken the rear seats out in both the TJ and LJ. Before I did you could get in and out but it wasn't easy. Originally, my '03 TJ only had the tilt feature on the passenger's side anyway. I want the tilt feature back so I can simply reach in more easily for things I store in the back (camping equipment for example).

Derek - If you're close to the Kenny-U-Pull in Elmsdale they have a few of them. I got 2 sets from Kennys in Hamilton. Their prices are always good - $35 per seat in this case. Tiburon seats do come with heaters as an option but I have yet to find a pair. I used an after market kit from Dorman and it was easy to install.

Thank you for your original thread on installing the seats. I went into the project with a little apprehension but it really was as easy as you documented. Sadly I don't have any u-pull wreckers around me but I was able to pick up a nice set at a junkyard for a reasonable price. I'm going to re-work the brackets this winter to see if I can make a little more foot clearance when the seat is folded forward.

You're very welcome. I think I said in that thread that I just wandered around until I found something that was about the right size and looked comfortable. It was hard to judge the comfort because they were in a sports car (lower) and the cars were also sitting on the ground (much lower - lol). I found out later that others had installed Tiburon seats before I did. I haven't found anyone that doesn't like them in their Jeep.

When I finish the fold forward feature I'm building I'll go back to my original thread and update it. I'll probably add details on the seat heaters I added (although I think there are a few good threads here already on how others have done it).

If you have C rates tires, set your air pressure to 26 psi. It will soften the ride.

I installed seat heaters in mine. I also have some back arthritis in my back and the heat feels good on it. I will say though that with the soft top the heated seats don’t get used in the jeep during the summer as much as they do in our car. We blast the a/c in the car with the heated seats on and it great.

Those do look great. A write-up of how you made the brackets w measurements etc, would be priceless! But completely understood if you fabricated them on the fly and dont have the time to share details. Ive heard others mention Hyundai seats for options. Either way, these are a nice option!
