Colorado Krew Hangout

Do you recall the added clearance when you did this, and as far as making it happen - is it just a grinding wheel and welder to pull out some chunk of the middle segment?

For background, I am looking into options for when I drop my tank eventually to fix the filler stopper problem (yes, the real fix - not the GM hose). I'd prefer to do all the projects at once than have to drop it multiple times.

Pics are in my build thread. Somewhere in 2017 during the mid arm install.

The gain is an inch. A body lift is required. Cut the mounts. Overlap. And weld. The strap slots need to be opened up about an inch. The top of the gas tank will hit the shock mount crossmember.

Savvy gets its additional clearance by not having a ribbed underside.

@tworley and @strumble8 - depending on how quickly Savvy and UPS work - there's a chance the TT can happen this weekend still. I blocked off my Sunday hoping for it and will get the lockers relocated Friday in prep.

Unrelated the pics out of Breck's publicity channels are showing some nice colors - so we are heading up in the family mobile for the next few days since the 8 month old is a little too young for much more than a dirt road.

My wife wants to go leaf peeping soon. Those may not be peak but they are getting damn close!

@rasband I still should be good to help out. I need to swap another ujoint (hoping just one) out on my driveshaft again but I am hoping to get that done tonight

Does anyone local have experience with a dana 300?

Holy Cross really reveals how under geared my 231 is. Nobody makes a 4:1 conversion anymore, and a 241 is going to limit my travel. The 300 is smaller than the 231 which is appealing, and I know it takes a ton of work to get bolted up underneath. Im just curious...if I did go this route it wouldnt be for another few years. There is one down in Pagosa Springs for $300 though.

I believe you have to run a flip kit(turns it upside down) to get the drivers side drop. They are prone to leaking in that position. Otherwise they are pretty bulletproof

Yep, flip kit required. Everything Ive read and its about the cost of an atlas. Like I said though, this wouldnt be for a few years. Maybe in that time another 4:1 conversion will be available. I am really surprised no one has picked up the baton after Terralow quit making it.

Are the replace a case's still available around, or are those all discontinued? Dumb question, looks like they are ghosts.

You could maybe call a few of the retailers that used to have them and see if somehow there’s still one sitting on a shelf somewhere, just not listed online. I had luck with that on my old Commando a few times.

But not sure if that’s worth it vs saving for an atlas though.

Sounds like there may be 15 rigs this year for Jeeptober. Maybe a little less as there were a few "maybe's". With some splitting off to the 4 mile area, we should have a good group for Chinaman. We'll have an even smaller group for Sundays GL/IC run.

Ill drive up early Saturday morning. Set up camp (at least claim a spot) and then meet everyone at GunSmoke.

Correct me if I am wrong, but looks like both Sunday runs are doable on 33s. GL looks to mostly be the gate keeper that looks fine with a decent line (plus the winching points already there).

I haven't been on either of these two trails, so I really don't know what the baseline build should be. I believe its going to be either or, but not both on Sunday. With that said though, trailsoffroad makes it sound like both have one real gnarly section that will push you to your limits, and both at the very beginning of each trail. After that it should be smooth sailing (loose term).

GL commentary from there:

The first half mile is the hardest of the trail. You come to the gatekeeper wall first, and then you have a very steep, uphill bouldery climb along a narrow shelf. If you are equipped with a winch, a lightly modified vehicle can winch over the first obstacle and complete the remaining of the trail no problems. If you are not equipped with a winch, large tires and lockers will be needed to complete the first obstacle.

Emphasis added :D
