Happy Columbus Day

No problem, as long as we are open and honest about the Imperialism that Columbus represented, the conquest of native peoples that he championed, and the genocide that ensued because of his explorations. Besides that, he was a shitty navigator. We really should honor Leif Ericsson- at least he made it to North America.

Ah yes, Leif. A viking. I did study him and the Vikings were on a level of brutality that Columbus could never dream of. Savages, but damn interesting those people were. Clever too.

Agreed. Too bad Leif and the guys were on the wrong side of history to not get more statues and parades. :)

Really. They really fostered navigation methods used for hundreds of years. But they believed in multiple false gods, so they had to be crazy heathens, right?

... But they believed in multiple false gods, so they had to be crazy heathens, right?

We solved that problem, didn't we? Now those people are Democratic Socialists and fewer and fewer believe in even one god.

Right? Believe in whatever you like, but a Christian has no firm ground to stand on of they tell anybody their religious beliefs are foolish.

I still identify as Christian. It's something I ponder often, but being raised on a conservative Catholic household, I was never taught that the Bible is one of the major texts of Islam. Now I'm wondering why that info was withheld...

Really guys. I'll rant some more tomorrow morning. I got so many thoughts swirling, I can't possibly find sleep tonight

Yeah, just like us heteros showed those gays how real marriage between a man and woman always stands the test of time!

The more you know. My education came from the inside and I made the mistake of reading what was on the outside. That was my downfall.

My family is full of many biblical marriages. More marriages than there are couples. Some are starting to get good at it. Maybe.

WWII started in 39 Marshall plan was enacted in 44. That's a foul ball at best. He gets another pitch.

The Marshall Plan makes Adolf's reconstruction work look like child's play.

Also, the original beetle was produced from 33 to 98 and completely dwarfed any of Henry's designs.

Ford showed the way.

Not to mention it was far better in design than anything Henry dreamed. VWs are still superior to Ford's offerings.

Irrelevant opinion from the duggout.

Upon further review ... the call stands ... he's OUT!

I'm challenging the call.

Germany was suffering the economic effects of the great depression along with the crippling debt paybacks for WWI. In 33, when he became chancellor, he introduced initiatives that lead to national economic sufficiency, which is the real reason he had to go. He wasn't taking part in the global banking system's crippling debt. But I digress.

In that time he envisioned the Autobahn (which we copied) and was managing to develop some of the most technical flying machines that had ever been seen. Other innovations that were copied included the first jet powered flight, the V2 and on and on. All of this while increasing mean household income by approximately 20%. And that was a real 20% extra income, not some cooked up number from a bureaucracy that deals with inflation and crap

To contrast, the Marshall plan involved putting Americans into debt to the global banking system (they guys that have played both sides of every war in the history of warfare) and dropping tons of bombs on German civilians and killing a significant number of America's most resourceful generation. Then the beautiful part of the plan. We spent the modern day equivalent of 100 billion dollars to rebuild the places we bombed into rubble.

Say what you will about child's play, one of those plans was founded on innovative ideas, and the other could have been commanded by a retarded hamster.

Damn, and I forgot to mention that the great depression was brought to you by the same government that screwed the American and German people. They could have avoided it altogether. Many nonpartisan economists have written books on the subject so I will spare you the references.

did not involve enslaving the populace under penalty of death.

Then sold those places trillions of dollars of goods and services while also protecting the planet against another world war.

The Marshall Plan being the former and Adolf's work being the latter.

Yeah like when glaciers covered Texas, then receded before humans started spewing CO2 into the atmosphere. The climate changes, I get it. But will carbon credits save the globe or allow corporations to spend billions on carbon credits just to pollute more while just paying more to do it. One burp from a volcano spews more greenhouse gasses than humans since our evolution. Who is gonna pay the carbon credits for that?
Seriously? This is basic climate science stuff.

Yes, the earth has always had climate change, but we wouldn't be seeing it now or at the rate that we're seeing it now if not for the effect that humans have.

*Current climate change is occurring ten times faster than the climate change that has happened through the last 65 million years.*

That's a fact. Go read up on it.

So yes, there are plenty of natural sources of CO2, such as volcanos, but they don't compare to what is being emitted by humans. And be careful of what some skeptics post when they talk about pure comparisons of factories to volcanos, because the cumulative factor of both of those at the same times gets multiplied faster than a volcano on its own by additional CO2 that gets released from melting permafrost. Basically, the more CO2 we release, the more CO2 gets released from permafrost, so the net effect is a rate of increase that exceeds the original sources of CO2 alone.

You can argue back and forth about climate credits or whatever policy you want. I don't have any clear cut views on whether carbon credits are the best way to tackle climate change, but they certainly don't seem to be enough on their own either way.

Yeah, cause I was reading in school instead of being an activist. My momma would have beat my ass 😂
Come on, you can do better than cheap zero-sum fallacies.

Meanwhile, American kids can't get across town without GPS!
American kids don't need to get across town without it, so why should they?

I mean, what's next? Are you going to start posting those boomer memes about kids these days not learning cursive?

did not involve enslaving the populace under penalty of death.

He did not enslave them. Again, I will point to Elie Weisel and his account of the "liberation" of Auchwitz. The "slaves" chose to remain with the captors instead of being liberated? How could this happen? This defies common logic. Maybe because common logic has never been applied to that particular situation because 'Murica that's why!

Then sold those places trillions of dollars of goods and services while also protecting the planet against another world war.

Are you saying we ended up financially in the green from that deal? Two scenarios here. First if I disagree, which I do, your calculator is malfunctioning. Secondly, let me play the white devil's advocate. Let's say that I agree. That means we went into a war that we financially profited from, which makes the assumption that we did the right thing hold much less water.

The Marshall Plan being the former and Adolf's work being the latter.

Disagree here. You did nothing to defend your call in the face of blatant facts. Jews=slaves and War=profit is far from a sound defense

Because batteries die, power goes out and the internet can fail. That's why. Nobody ever has to know how to until they do. I was very near ground zero for Katrina. I won't go into the brutal description here, but if you think your entire life will consist of air conditioning and GPS navigation (and after what I have seen, I hope yours does cause I wouldn't wish what I have seen on the most disgusting humans on Earth) good for you. Some of us understand how to go across town even if we happen to get our phone stolen

Seriously? This is basic climate science stuff.

"basic"? There isn't much basic about it really. Scientists argue over how much humans effect climate change. Some even feel a warming earth would be a net gain and some think we are all doomed. I don't think I will engage in all of this, but lets not just say "basic" on a subject of climate change. It is quite complex and humans seem to grossly underestimate nature and how nature as a whole will react to a warming globe. We are too busy focusing on some polar bear to have any idea. Moronic, but what would anyone expect. The left run media loves to hate humans and most everything we do for our luxuries, but I don't see those same media people walking to work, cutting back in their 4,000+sf homes and so-on. So hypocritical, but laughable. Oh look how bad humans are. Let me hop into my S series Benz and head home to my huge home with pool and turn on that A/C. lol Yeah whatever.

Don't underestimate nature. It seems to have a way adjusting and for all we know a warming climate cold be great. I think I'll take my chances on warmer than an ice age, but that is another hot button. Will warming create an ice age? Again, scientists don't seem to agree on this. In other words, people just don't know what is going to happen.

Come back to Earthy, buddy. Relying on GPS doesn't mean that "kids these days" don't have common sense. When power goes out, batteries fail, etc., they can still stop and ask for directions like everyone else.

Go back and read the post. I never said that climate science is basic, but the fact that climate change is heavily influenced by human's actions and is occurring at an increased pace compared to past climate events is very basic. Feel free to actually click on the links that show what there is scientific consensus around.

Some even feel a warming earth would be a net gain and some think we are all doomed.
What is this crap about "some people"? You keep throwing around these vague claims as a way to dodge the basic facts.

And yes, there will be *some* benefits to climate change, but they are far and away blown away by the net negatives that's compounded by people who drag their feet in accepting the science.

Ever heard of ad hominem?

You can keep pointing your finger at the left and using every time they're wrong as an excuse to hand wave away anything that doesn't already fit into your own narrative, but that doesn't change the facts.

People know what is going to happen: The global temperature will rise. We even have a pretty good idea of how much since previous forecasts on this have been very accurate.

What is not so sure is what the effects of this will be. This seems to be what you and others here are hyper-focusing on. Some of the effects, scientists are pretty sure about. Some of them we are already seeing. Some of them are things we are not as sure about that range from potentially negligible to actually catastrophic.
