There is a little bag of straps in the glove box when rigs are sold new that straps the seat forward to the lower part of the B pillar to keep it folded.
I thought jeeps themselves are just make shift thingies.....
I mean why else would you design a shoebox on wheels to go anywhere?
After reading this whole mess it reminded me of NASA and the excessive money they caused to be spent developing a pen that would write in space. Lots of it and they succeeded quite well. The Russians however, used more of the Jeep Mentality for their solution of just using a pencil. Sometimes the wheel don't need to be reinvented.

Just poking some fun. I agree, this is a pretty simple solution. The bungee cord has been working well for the past 15 years in my Jeep.
They do have toilets that work in zero gravity, I'll bet a filter isn't that far out of the realm of expected items that removes contaminants that may be damaging. Mini ratchet strap, billet aluminum, woven embossed silk strap available in 17 gaudy colors none of which a straight white male would be seen with, titanium hooks forged in all angles so it looks like a B-117 Nighthawk, special machined tie down for one end that has 12 rivets and 3 Torx machine screws with stainless steel nutserts that mounts on top of the carpet with a carbon graphite machined stand-off so it doesn't squash the carpet down all made by orphan Chinese kids so you can sell it for 10.98 with a 50% profit margin.
My '05, locks in the up position, same as in the down. Maybe this is a Canada thing.

It is not a TJ thing. That one is a year thing. When they went to the seat with the release latch in the top of the seat in the middle, they lock up and down. (in case that confuses anyone, TJ is what they call the Wrangler in Canada)

I usually either have the seat down or have it removed, but for those times when I need to have it flip up, I just use a bungy cord that lives full time at the rear of the sports bar for when I need it.
I know this is an old thread, and i don't know if our 01 will stay up or not, now i need to go look, but i think the OP was looking for a kick stand of sorts to keep the folded seat up. Go check 3rd tow suvs at the salvage yards. I could swear the 03, or another suburban we had, had a kick stand that would keep the folded seat in the folded position..... maybe one could rob that and make work.
Or if you're looking for more trunk for your trunk there's this option...
