17" vs 15" wheels?

I found these. But they aren't as aggressive as the KO2's. I can afford them at $114 each. But really like the KO2's better. Especially the Baja edition. But I don't have over a grand to spend on tires. More like $650. Bought the wife cheap tires for her mini van. So now she doesn't understand the value of tires for a LT or Jeep. So $650 is all I can squeeze out of her.

I've also been looking at used Duratracs and KO2's on CL. But nothing definitive yet. Duratracs for $100 each. But waiting to see how much treadlife is left. And what year they are. I got f'd on a pair of tires for my Yukon a few years back. Great almost new tires off a toyota. But I didn't check the year. No one would mount them because of that. They were like 5 or 10 years old. I don't recall the cut off. Had to go to a place in the hood to get them mounted. Sold the Yukon a week later. Pretty sure it's a CA law.

I'm gonna keep looking. For a 265/70r17 in load C. I'll find some eventually. Would love to find some KO2 take offs.

Eew, that's where you screwed up, have always sold the importance and safety of an expensive/good tire to the wife here. That's gonna be a hard sell now, next time she's in a wreck, blame the tires and get it back on course? Jk/lol

I know right?!!! My son got into an accident with the Jeep in the rain. Which is what allowed us to discuss new tires with her. She's all for them. Just doesn't understand the value or cost of Jeep parts. I keep most of it from her. So partly my fault. She's still thinking 1990's prices too. It's an uphill battle. But at least we got new tires on the block. lol.

Just tell her you're gonna save up some more so you can take advantage of the new technology in good tires and put it off a bit till you get your budget saved for them. I start prepping my wife about a year early telling her I'll be saving up for news tires this year. My truck's next and she already knows they'll be around $1,400. Tires don't come out of the "emergency" fund, they're something you save up for.

We've got a kid in college. So she only sees one option. "Which one is the cheapest?". LOL! Honestly most of the money I spend on cars I keep to myself. Each one would be a battle. So I just tend to make my own money for the Jeep. And spend it that way. I don't spend exorbitantly. Usually choose the middle of the road quality and price wise. I'm not a big rock crawler or anything. But I do want my Jeep to be safe and reliable. I've done a pretty good job so far. Hopefully the tires turn out the same way.

It's always a juggling act. A kid in college takes up alot of our finances.

You have a great looking Jeep! I'm with you too, I'm no rock crawler and I don't even get mine off a paved road. I'm considered a "mall crawler" around here. lol

Sooo, I've been looking at wheel and tire combos for weeks...so much info/bs to weed thru.

I have a '05 Rubi w/ BFG 265/75/R16's
I'm starting the Savvy Mid-arm, fox 2.0, tummy tuck, project and will definitely will be running 35's
I want to maintain decent street driveability and stick to C rated tires if I can, this will be a weekend warrior, not a daily.

...I'm not going to be racing or boulder bouncing
...I'm not changing axles at this point and will be sticking with the 5x4.5" bolt pattern
...I will be running sand, mud, snow, clay, and an occasional rocky trail here in Michigan
...I may want to upgrade the brakes so downsizing to 15" or keeping 16" stock wheels doesn't seem like a good option

—> This points me in the direction of 17" x 8.5/9" wheels as being the best option?
