Steering skid plate

I'm trying to figure out how to install my Savvy steering box skid plate. I found the picture below on the net and don't know who took it. Do most TJs have the hole that I circled on the picture. My 2005 TJ does not. TIA

There should be a slot that you can drop the nut in through. The bolt goes up into the nut through the bottom drain hole. Drill a new drain hole if you need it.

The drainole was there in 2003. The large slot was not.

I've been looking at that picture wondering how you did that for a while now. I will have to take a much closer look tomorrow.

It wasn't difficult. There is more than one opening, but I forget which I used. I remember sticking a length of wire into the drain hole and landing the flange nut on it to get it sitting right side up over the hole.
