Which SYE?

In order to fix my shifter issue, I’m planning on doing a SYE, DC driveshaft, and adjustable rear control arms. I plan on keeping the original skid. I currently have a 3.5” spring lift and 35” tires. At some point I may add a .5” body lift to ease suspension.

I’m getting a bit confused as to what model I need. Advanced adapters sells two different kinds. Some only sell one. Some sell an extreme version.

what should I consider?

Just to be clear. I plan on removing the TC drop. That is the whole point of this.

Yes, You remove the TC drop when installing a SYE. The TC drop helps when you don’t have the SYE but since you are going to be installing a SYE it’s safe to remove the TC drop. Also I suggest Savvy’s 1.25” body lift. To run 35’s correctly you really need a combo of 4” lift and 1.25” body lift for a total of 5.25” of lift. You’ll be at 4.75” with a 3.5” lift and a 1.25” savvy body lift. I either suggest going down to 33’s for that lift or buy 4” springs with 1.25” Savvy body lift. I’m also assuming you don’t have stock gears since your running 35’s

If you ever plan on a tummy tuck, then I would suggest JB Conversions Super Short SYE which isn't much more. Though, you will have to buy a speedohealer ($50 DIY to $140 new unit) as it converts the gear driven speedo to a tone ring and hall sensor.

Another vote for JB Conversion SYE. Keep in mind that if you go with their super short SYE, a hall effect speed sensor and tone wheel are used in place of the factory speedometer gear. This means that if you want to adjust the speedometer you'll need something like a SpeedoHealer to make adjustments for tire size corrections. On the plus side, you get a 3" longer driveshaft, which is nice for the TJ.

I have a traditional Advance Adapters SYE. I ended up doing a medium tuck with a UCF extra clearance skid and wished I went super short. So yea I agree with above get a super short if you plan on doing a tuck.

For what reason do I need a higher lift? I don’t have fenders for it to hit. Just curious

So that was my alternator plan actually, which is why I was considering the .5” BL (to ensure clearance with the “no body lift” skid)

What do you think the advantages are to the short sye?

JB super short has three options

1310 CV yoke
1350 non CV yoke
1350 rear output flange
1310 is what you want.

Advantage is a longer driveshaft which means less operating angle. Chance of vibes will be less. Plus, as mentioned, if you decide a tummy tuck in the future you'll know for sure you wont have to buy another sye

Thanks. Now just to watch enough videos to give me confidence I can do this.

Remember, if you choose to do the super short and eliminate your mechanical speedo gear, the new electronics to adjust your speedo will require frequent adjustments as your tires wear down. I chose to avoid that option because of that reason. I have the Advance Adapters Standard SYE kit with an Adams CV shaft and with my adjustable upper arms, have zero vibes. The extra 1/2"-1" of driveshaft length probably makes very little difference. Also, I have no reason or need for a tummy tuck so maybe that's the only reason to try to go with the super short kit.

How does mechanical vs electrical revolution monitoring differ because of tire wear?
