What did you do to your TJ today?

Finally got around to changing diff fluid, t-case fluid. Also cleaned throttle body + IAC cuz after reading about it here it seemed like such a simple thing to do.

(This forum is awesome with all the great tips, was so tired of having to wade through all the JK stuff on other places)

Nothing yet I'm in the planning stages on boxing the frame with 3/16" or 1/4" plate what ever I have the most of in the steel stock.

I know vertical welds are the strongest but I was taught not to vertical weld frames. I seen frame extensions done with angled welds. Any welded splices in the boxing should be angled.

Installed rear tow hooks. These are Curt, rated at 10,000lbs. Need Grade 8 bolts for proper install.

On the rear, the stock frame has only one hole that can be used for tow hook. It's the 1/2" hole at the bottom in above pic. You will need to measure your tow hook center hole to center hole to drill another 1/2" hole. Drilled hole is 1 3/8" higher and to the right (yours could be different). Use a 1/8", then 1/4" before the final 1/2" (it makes it quicker). Keep some water nearby to keep the bits cool.

Underneath the frame there is a stock hole just large enough to get your lock washer and nut through to connect the bolts (above pic). It's a little cumbersome, but if you can hand tighten them inside it's easy to finish up with a ratchet or wrench on the outside (normally 3/4").

Here's the finished look. The angle is meant to keep the attachment point below the bumper. Always follow proper towing procedures. Have fun, and hope you don't get stuck!

Also added a Spiderweb Shade. They sent me the LJ version for my TJ. I put it on anyway, because we need it tomorrow for the beach. It Might actually be better as it gives better coverage to the backseat. Will report back!

Funny how sometimes the 'wrong' thing turns out better than the right thing. I had a JK Spiderwebshade left over from my '12 JK Sport, and it actually works better on my TJ than it did on the JK.

Installed TeraFlex 2" budget boost coil spacers.
I can actually slide under the jeep now and inspect stuff which is nice.

Installed a BBK 1724 62mm Throttle Body that someone sent me for my birthday.
It fixed an annoying slow idle problem that just wouldn't go away no matter what I did.
It was sometimes accompanied by a stall and IAC fault code. All sensors are MOPAR.
Had the old throttle body off twice cleaning it thoroughly, but problem remained.
I will say that it runs incredibly smooth with the new T.B., and starts faster when cold and hot.

While changing the Throttle Body, noticed hairline cracks in #2 & #3 injectors. They weren't leaking, but I didn't like the idea of leaving them alone, so replaced all the injectors.

Last weekend had a local shop install TrueTracs front and rear, left the stock gears alone, 3.73's.

Now that the TJ is running sweet, I'm expecting the head to crack, as that's just how my luck usually pans out.

Went to store left jeep running...as I left there was a knocking noise...drove for about a km put in 4 high and it went away? Any ideas what it would be? The knocking noise sounded like a bad knock in engine.

Noisy valve lifters?

What shocks are you running with the 2" BB?

I'm still running the stock length shocks. They were still good and I saw no need to replace them.
Right now if I disconnect the sway bar, I'll get several additional inches of travel or stretch with the wheels off the ground and on jack stands. I explored that as I needed to pop in new bump stops, as my old ones came apart in crumbles when removing them. I needed spring stretch in order to squeeze new stops between the coils to install.

Same size bump stops?

You don't think the stock shocks can be over extended at full droop? I ask because Zone sells their BB with longer shocks, and it is 1.75", not 2".

Teraflex doesn't actually recommend replacing the stock shocks when installing their 2" spacers.
The sway bar seems to limit sag or spring travel by around 3" before full shock extension.
Nonetheless, when my current shocks need replacing, I'll go with a longer set anyway.
I want to keep my soft suspension, so I don't think a heavy duty gas shock will be my first choice.

If someone could recommend a decent soft-ride wimpy shock for a "mildly lifted" TJ, I'd appreciate it...

I was pretty happy with the Zone shocks on their BB, they offer two versions. I also can't see TF being against replacement shocks seeing as how they sell their BB in a kit with their 9550 shocks, unless those are stock length.
