I emailed Blaine a while ago and gave him a complete description of my setup and included the fact that my street driving habits don't include hard braking at all. I plan ahead and mostly coast into a stoplight rather than the guys that race to the stoplight then have to slam on the brakes. When the light turns green we are sitting next to each other. He suggested that his big brake kit was not a good idea for my driving style so I'm not sure what to do and have done nothing to upgrade my brakes with 35's.
I have a customer who against my advice put the Super 16" on with 33's. He had a hard time breaking it in and being local, I had him bring it to me. Checked over the install, it checked out fine. He even had us do a rear brake conversion to discs to solve his stopping problem. Took it out, broke it in, brakes were way more than you need to stop his rig. Explained that while he did not have drive it like a race car, waiting just a bit longer to apply the brakes at a stop would go a long way to keep them broken in. He made all the appropriate head noddings and noises indicative of understanding.
About 2 weeks later after a phone call, he brings it back because the brakes aren't working. We take it out, note he is correct, do a quick 5 stop break in, they are awesome again.
Go back and explain that while you don't have to drive it like a race car, waiting just a bit longer to apply the brakes at each stop will go a long way to keep them broken in. He makes all the same noises again and takes the rig home.
About 2 weeks later, another call, another visit, exact same results, brakes are sub par, quick and fast break in brings them right back up. I get him to take me for a drive. Extra long coasting stops with the pedal ever so gently applied. I explain that will never keep them broken in. He tells me his dad taught him how to drive 50 years ago and he isn't going to change or even try to.
Well sir, when we get back, I will remove the Super 16 and swap on a brand new 15" kit free of charge, no labor, nothing, just a straight no labor swap and I have a new TJ master on the shelf we can use.
Nope, I want the Super 16" because it is a bigger kit. Yes it is, that is part of problem and the way you drive, you will never keep it broken in because you refuse to even try. Someone is going to pull out in front of you and you won't be able to stop from hitting them and I want nothing to do with that.
My dad taught me how to drive 50 years ago and that isn't going to change. Alright, there is nothing I can do for you then, call me when there is.
