What did you do to your TJ today?

Sometimes I get reminded about how I flushed my rigs in the past. It was from the city tap water with a garden hose :)

if our water wasn’t so hard, I’d consider it. It was truly a tedious process that took way too long.

Drain plug on the Teraflex diff cover (front) was seeping oil despite having used teflon tape. So I drained the oil, put MORE teflon tape on the plug, reassembled and re-filled. Hopefully it was enough...
I've heard (actually, just heard this recently) that, if you put too much tape on, it can actually cause it to peel back as you screw the plug/pipe/whatever in and it "bunches up" outside the mating threads rather than following them in and sealing the gaps. Maybe just something to keep in mind.

I got that "this time" as well - dunno how much got left behind. The darn drain plug isn't a taper fit, and feels pretty loose besides - I've never encountered a drain plug that wouldn't tighten up, but this one only gets tight when it bottoms out. If it doesn't work this time, I'm gonna use Permatex on it I think.

If you're talking about Permatex High Temp Thread Sealant, I used it on the threads of the coolant temps sensor, the metal pipe coming off the water pump and the block drain plug when I serviced my cooling system back in Nov of last year. I like that stuff. I don't know how it would work with gear oil though. It might say on the back of the package.

Earlier today I took the first step, a down payment. After coming to terms that I wasn’t going to save my salvage O5 LJ, I decided the end of something great could mean the beginning of something better. Found one with a head start (3.5” rubicon express lift.) She’s currently getting fitted with new tires, new Mickey Thompson’s, brand new soft top, seat covers, and a mess of other recycled mods from my last one (organ donor.) Should be ready to pick up in a week or so. Pictures to follow. Here is the very first pic while she sits untouched!

BTW....finding a great condition LJ these past few weeks has NOT been an easy task. Passed on sooooo many rust boxes. This one has 112k miles which is just a few more than what I had before. Too many beautiful LJs out there with less than 70k miles that have a horror show going on underneath the Jeep.

Installed a Healtech Speedohealer today to correct my speedometer. Running 35s with a recent regear to 5:38s had my speedo wildly off. The install was cake and my calculated offset on the speedohealer (143) was spot on. Tranny now shifts at the right RPM too. Definitely worth the $130. Next up is installing a Stahlbus oil drain plug when I change my oil.

Actually, I was thinking of just the good old classic "Form a Gasket". That stuff has gotten me out of more problems than I can remember! Even used it on a polyetheline pipe barb fitting once that just would NOT stop leaking - its probably still there to this day!

I'm about to order a bunch of parts in preparation for vacation in a couple weeks. Jeep almost didn't make it to work the other day. P0352 and p1391 have now been added to the already long list of trouble codes. I have another engine harness that I am going to check out and put on. Timing set, rear main, probably intake gasket too. But for right now, it's not drivable. Sputtering, missing, coughing, won't rev up.

I think HAL's having a breakdown 😖

Put the hard top back on. We have had more rain in our area this year than the past 5 or 6. Normally August is pretty dry here.

Purchased from a member here, these square LED off road lites are now installed!

17a.webp

Stock fog lites without the headlites.

17b.webp

Off road lites without the headlites.

The off road lites are powered by the fog lite circuit. They switch on, and the fogs switch off, when the Jeep is put in 4WD - the transfer case sense switch controls a relay. Unlike the fogs, the off road lites will work even with the main headlites on high beam.

Now on to the stereo and CB installations! Head unit ordered today, I'll order the CB in a couple of days.
