Looking for cordless impact wrench suggestions

As far as 1/2" and 3/8" is concerned, is the advantage to 3/8" simply that it can come in a more compact package than a similar impact wrench in 1/2" size?

I'm not a tool expert, so bare with me if some of these questions are "basic".
 
Yes but nowadays they offer the same chassis usually in both drive sizes. The main space savings is using smaller sockets/extensions to get in tighter spots.

Yes, but that isn't the main reason. The better reason is the sockets are smaller and fit more places.

So what’s the deal with the M12 versus the M18? Obviously the M18 has more power voltage wise, but for instance, the M12 stubby 3/8” has more torque than the M18 3/8”.
 
Unless you have a really good battery the M12 stubby will struggle with tight lugs. I like the older 3/8 M12 fuel, with a good battery it's the same as the stubby but cheaper and more compact to me. If you want to hammer lugs off skip the M12.

I had to go look for a steering knuckle and while I was there, I decided to count the Milwaukee cordless power tools I have. There are 52 of them and I'm not sure I didn't miss a few. That doesn't include 30 batteries, many chargers, heated clothing, hand tools, Pack out system, or bit assortments, hole saw kits, bit kits, drill bit kits, blades, etc..

I have the M12 Stubby, I have 3 of the 3/8" impacts and I don't use the Stubby. Do you reckon that is because I don't have batteries, a way to charge them, or just maybe what the numbers on paper say don't always translate to how the tool works?

Edit- yeah, missed a few. Forgot about the chainsaw, blower, and weed-eater in the garden shed. Told you I hated yard work.

That's in your world. In my world I see all manner of overtightened lugs and the Stubby just doesn't cut it.

Yeah, I had a feeling it had to do with numbers on paper not translating to how the tool itself works.

It sounds like most of the stuff you actually use is M18.

I don’t plan on buying an M12 anything, but I did indeed catch that part 😉
