I’m assuming the term PCV valve is the same as a crankcase. I have 2 in my 05 and one is clearly leaking. Is it possible I only need to replace the grommet on the one? Or should I buy the valve as well?

I was under the impression that neither of these were actually PCV valves, but just breather tubes. Can somebody confirm? Just curious.

The 4.0L uses a CCV system, not a PCV system. That front hose you see should go into the valve cover, not the crankcase. The front hose is the clean air inlet. The skinny little tube coming out of the rear of the valve cover is the outlet. It goes to the intake manifold, and that's what creates the suction to circulate air through the crankcase to remove fumes.

In my picture the leaky one is 53030495? I’m assuming the front means closest to the bumper. Or am I backwards

Yes, that is the one at the front of the engine, but you should't try to remove it without first removing the valve cover so you may as well order everything I linked to.

Exactly. The rear isn't a "valve" at all, its just an elbow with a restrictor in it, .060" if I remember correctly. They get brittle with age, but a lot of auto parts stores only sell the front - completely open - elbow for both front and rear. You'll have a very high idle if you install open elbows in both locations. The dealership did this to mine just before I bought it...

As other said, it is best to remove them with the valve cover off. It seems like it would be easy, but the heat makes the plastic brittle. It was a pain in the ass and mine came out in a few hundred pieces. You don't want that debris falling into the valve train.

Removing the valve cover is not too difficult, just the rear bolts are tricky to get to. Use a Felpro gasket and make sure to tighten the bolts/studs in the correct sequence and torque.

Grommets and valve. The valve will be brittle anyway from engine heat. It will cone out in pieces.

Remove the old ones when the engine/ccv is warm. Use some lube, after engine is cold it wont come out easily. If its too old it will brittle

Since the specific rear breather is no longer available for the 2005-06 year, in your experiences with the 2005-06, will this grommet and breather be compatible?

Grommet for the 2005-06. Mopar Part number 53013743ab

Breather for the 1997-04. Mopar Part number 53030495

If not, I currently have both of these, what would you recommend to swap in with?

Thanks!
