What did you do to your TJ today?

Other than driving my daughter to school, I hadn't really driven anywhere significant since the work I've done on it this past week or so. To refresh, new tires, new H&R springs, new Rancho shocks, new motor mounts, new trans. mount, and new front sway bar bushings and links.

So, I took a drive on fairly rough forest service road I had yet to explore, the Kimsey Mountain Hwy. which was built over 100 years ago, but never paved. The clouds were down to below 2,000ft. so I was driving in the clouds most of the time and had no views of the surrounding mountains. Still, a great time just me and the Jeep.

Once I got home and looked everything over, I don't know if I missed it on reassembly, but the passenger side motor mount bolt had loosened and back out quite a bit. Luckily, the nut was still hanging on by a few threads. I'm guessing I got sidetracked and forgot to tighten it down. All good now, though. Except it rides and drives so much better and quieter...I'm hearing other little noises that I want to track down. Just nuisances from what I can tell. Nothing critical...I guess going for luxury interior comfort is a fools errand. LOL!! I love this thing. I wish my old CJ-7 would have been this nice back in the day.

Here's a link to the road I drove. It's nothing that a sedan couldn't do if you know how to drive, but it is in the middle of nowhere.

I love USA so does my wife we do visit every few years and we really appreciate these pics and others :)
Keep us posted on where and when you are in the U.S., I am sure lots of memebers would be able to take you a few special places. Count me in, I am in So. Cal.

My wife and I did visited Queensland a few times. We were lucky to stay with some friends that set us up with dual sport bikes and my wife and I did day trips all over the sunshine coast.

I just did some grabars and bartact handles too. How did you fare with the holes for the grabars? I read the threads on here and thought I was good with adjustements from the crappy instructions but I was still off a tad on the first one, made the 2nd one better and was STILL off a bit.

Both sides were off a bit. Took a dremel tool and made it work.

Not the best but it doesn't look bad.

Awesome job. Be careful with that powered sub. Rockville. I had one that got so hot it burnt my hand to touch it. The fuse did not blow. Had I not smelt something I know it would have burnt to the ground. It was great then one day it just went crazy hot

this weekend i replaced my 5100 bilsteins that came with my jeep. They always road stiff and I had read plenty of good things about the Rancho 5000x shocks. Out of curiosity I looked up the bilstein part number and found out the PO put shocks for a 4.5 lift on a jeep with springs meant for a 3" lift. no doubt the shocks were bottoming out. smh

For some of you this looks a little different then it did last year, or year before... I’ve always horsetraded or skimped or searched til I was tired to find deals cause I never felt like I could justify spending money or a 2nd, or 3rd vehicle over stuff for my family etc... so after many years and several different TJs I finally bought a decent set of tires I wanted and the wheels I’ve always wanted today😁... but of course the wheels were used😂.. but just barely!!!
FYI..on this Jeep I had jk rubicons....then black wheels, then stripped them.....then painted bronze!.. never just made me happy!

Swapped out the rear dif fluid and refilled w/new + friction modifier for the trac lok.

It's been grinding in tight turns recently, so hopefully this sorts that out.

Then stopped by the muffler shop to get (yet another ) exhaust leak welded up.

Ordered on Amazon a Dorman 924-704 Ignition Switch Actuator Pin
Pretty sure this will fix my ignition issues....its going to be a long 10 days before it gets here though :cautious:

Removed intake and exhaust manifolds to finally replace the front exhaust manifold that had a small crack.

Removed the catalytic converters and confirmed the lower cat materials were loose and able to slide within the cat. Been having a rattle from below that I would have swore was the upper cat having broken up and fallen down to the lower cat (had that happen with previous). At least I've confirmed the rattle was in the cats and not the drivetrain.

It's under the knife for a lot of upgrades (really need to get around to a build thread) so for now it's mostly removal of the old and then we'll get to the install of the new. Having the front fender off made these removals SO MUCH easier. ;)

I need a better picture - too many artifacts and it was starting to rain!

This was probably the dumbest thing I've done to this Jeep. Why I got it into my head to convert a military surplus blackout tail light into a rear fog lite is beyond me! I'll admit that it ended up working quite well - the new rear fog lite is very brite, and shows much more contrast to the standard tail lites than the above picture would suggest. Converting the surplus tail lite was a long drawn out process, but I "got 'er done." It should be good to run this here in Florida in our frequent heavy rainstorms at least. The entire project was probably less than $50, but involved a lot of attention to detail.
