I was originally thinking about going with a 4" lift and 33s but when considering cost not only of the lift but also things such as a regear I'm thinking that I'm going to go with a more economical option.

I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with the 5spd manual.

I'm considering a 2" BB or 2" suspension lift with 31" BFG ATs.

The BB is cheap but once adding new shocks it looks like I would be getting pretty close to the cost of a 2" suspension anyways.

Any recommendation on whether a BB or suspension is the way to go?

I ran a 2’ BB on my Rubi with 32’s for a few years and did a ton of trails.
What kind of wheeling do you do ?
@CodaMan did in impressive write up on his 2’ procom spring lift

2.5 inch springs (in case you want to ever use 32's you're good)
Longer sway bar links for new spring height that disconnect
Rancho 5000x or skyjacker black max shocks.

Done.

Yes literally that simple.

If you're going to mess with the springs for a poly lift (budget lift)...why not just remove and replace said springs. It really is simple.
Will ride and drive better than factory ever did x2 off road.

P.s.
I'm not a proponent of using
combined different things to achieve such a small lift...especially when springs can be had on the cheap ...(you'll need shocks regardless) and you'll get better performance with the new springs

Good luck

What gears do you have now? If 307 you may want to regear anyway.

I’m not going to be doing any wheeling. I just like the look of the slightly bigger tires and lift. It’s my daily driver right now and at some point will just be the family “cruise around town with the top down” vehicle.

This sounds like what I need to do right here.
I’m assuming you go with the 0.75” spacers on front and back? I’ve seen some people talk about the spacers as a way to level out the rake of the Jeep and didn’t know if that’s what you were suggesting

He was suggesting .75"" spacers front and rear with a 1.25" BL=2" lift . If you did that, you could even use your stock shocks if you wanted too.

I think is $ the limit. A 2 inch BB is cheaper than a spring set
2.5 can go down rabbit holes
Please explain the 2.5 spring "rabbit hole." We've installed many and it's the simplest most non rabbit hole decent lift you can do.

Price?
Well...
Poly lift front and back will be close to $100
Body lift close to or over $100
Shocks are needed regardless

Spring lift...
They start at $200
Shocks are needed so thats a wash ..
Sway bar links that disconnect is the only added cost when comparing the two.

I do think it's silly that hardly anyone suggests sway bar disconnects when talking suspension mods. Comical actually.
Perhaps they don't understand the benefit of disconnecting the the sway bar off road....not sure. Maybe most just run fire roads or mud.
Even in stock form the TJ suspension has good flexibility....but is limited if the sway bar remains connected.

In comparing the two for just the added cost of some sway bar disconnects as the only real cost difference it more than makes up for that negligible disconnect cost with the ride and drive improvement.

Um, thats not entirely correct
2” BB is $60 on Amazon
1” BL is closer to $125 for a full replacement bushing style.
Shocks arn’t needed for a BL.
Summit has 2” springs for $111

Agree on disco’s but most forrest road / new jeepers don’t need them. Actually they could benefit from the added stability of keeping the sway attached as they build skills and experience.

2.5" Lift

Required: Shocks, springs, bumpstops, adjustable track bars, a SYE (Slip Yoke Eliminator) , rear upper and lower adjustable control arms, and a DC driveshaft. Or you can do a transfer case drop and skip the SYE, adjustable control arms, and DC driveshaft.
Tire Size Recommendation: 31" or 32" (33" will ideally need a 1" body lift to give you a bit more room in the fenders)
