It is DAMN funny and while I give buddies shit for their LIFTED to the clouds rigs being disabled the SHIT also rubs me the wrong way.
I actually had people on my motorcycle forum ask me how I could ride my Harley if I was disabled. And then it happens at least one a trip when I'm on my bike where someone will tell me I can't park in a handicap spot.

It's pathetic how many people think someone has to be wheel chair bound, to have the right to utilize parking spaces reserved for the disabled.
Before I had my amputation it was real funny when people would confront me. I threatened to drop my pants more than once and show them the big hole in my leg.
Had a tour bus driver do that at Mt Rainer. I had shorts on under my leathers so I did drop my pants. I was on my Buell at the time.
The people on the bus were so pissed at the driver. I had a lot of them come up and tell me they were going to file a complaint with the tour company. The driver sort of slinked away once I had dropped my pants.
People are just idiots. I was at Multinomial Falls in OR and this guy comes up and tells me I can't park in a handicap parking spot. So first thing I do is ask who the fuck are you and why does it matter to you? So he says he's Park employee and they have bikers who do this all the time. So then he askes me for ID and I'm like WTF? Show me some ID first. Then I tell him to go look at my license plate to show that I have a HC plate.
So he does but then he's like I don't have any ID cause I am not a park employee anymore. So now I am really pissed off. And I know I shouldn't let this stuff affect me but now I'm in a pissed mood for the rest of the day and of course it ruins my trip for that day. My wife (ex-wife) gets mad with me and is telling me I shouldn't allow this to piss me off.
I don't blame you one bit. A small number of people abuse the system and then people such as yourself get chastised because they assume you're abusing it too. It's going to be interesting as my parents get older and I end up chauffeuring them around more and more.. My mom is already eligible to have disabled plates or a placard (they'll probably get the placard) so I'm sure I'm going to get 'the treatment" when I take her shopping in the bigger cities.

Well I'm sure you see it too but the people who are driving their parents car and park in the HC spot and no one in the damn car is handicap and you can tell it.
Yes I recommend the placard for your parents. This way you can move it from rig to rig. They will also get a ID card with the placard serial number on it that they are suppose to carry with them. If asked by POLICE you are required to show it.
By law no one can ask you WHAT YOUR disability is not even the police. They can only ask you to show the ID showing you are allowed to have the placard or HC license plate.
That's good to know, thanks.. I'll have to remember to either keep one of their ID cards with me while I sit in the truck or just relocate to a different parking spot while they do their shopping.
I've never been asked to see mine in over 13 years.
It won't do you any good to have it since it wouldn't be in your name. I wouldn't worry about moving if asked just let them know they are in the store.
I don't always park in a HC spot but do when I'm hurting or sore.
Before the days of the welfare state and those encouraging comments from LBJ about keeping those "N words" voting for us for 50 years.......
