I’m thinking about leaving the forum. The chatbot thing is so annoying I don’t even want to tap on threads.

I agree it’s not worth me filtering through. If I want ai responses I’ll do just that but I’m here to ask those who know and have that experience with such topics. (Edit: I see it’s been removed as haven't checked the forum Chris made about)

If I read Chris's comments correctly it is now disabled so you shouldn't have anymore issues. We all like your input and following yours & Kaleb's threads so please think about staying. I do fully understand your frustration but hope it was a ill fated experiment that is now over with.

I’m like you. I want to be able to find answers. I could narrow my involvement to updating my thread, but I’d miss out on looking for answers. I don’t enjoy wasting my time with that crap. At least human humor is intelligent.

Thank God. Thanks for this info. I wasn’t going to look for it.

GR A-Pillar armor arrived yesterday. I’m looking for a really close body match. Once I find one I’ll get these installed and paint them on the Jeep. They look really nice. I’ll post more pics of the backside later. It’s interesting how they formed them.

Not enough aluminum enough yet. Get the GR hood louver kit and some trail doors.

Are they steel or aluminum?

They’re steel. I think UCF sells an aluminum. I don’t like the looks though, the weight is still low on these, and the fitment of the UCF had bad reviews.

Yeah, I’ve tried it. The shade was not good with the Flame Red. It was dead on for the Patriot Blue. I’m looking at R&E Paint Supply. I talked to them. You spray it on a sample card and then if it doesn’t match you just show them and the’ll refund your money. I talked to Gabbie, so this is Gabbie’s Guarantee.

Another thing we do at my work is take a sample piece to wesco paint supply and get them to paint match it. They can make it into 2k spray cans, or pint/quart sizes. And it’s always spot on, matches the 20 year paint fade too. But probably pretty expensive.

Not knowing the paint sequence makes things difficult. How many base coats, type and number of top and clear makes a difference for tint. You could try different combinations but it takes time and 💵.

Where do you work? I’ll look into the paint you supply.

Unless you have a high scfm compressor hvlp won't work for you. These are what I'm looking at.

My compressor is rated at 5cfm.

This is where I have a problem. I know this is true, and replicating what I have on the rear tailgate would be difficult, so it would get painted too, but not from bare aluminum, and I don’t have the time or money to experiment.

The Rustoleum Sunrise Red with a 1K high gloss clear on the tailgate armor turned out pretty close. It’s still a shade to orange. Nobody ever notices though, so I’m not sure it’s not good enough.

Yeah, that chat bot thing was what I like to call “5 minutes of fun”. The first time I ever used that term around my wife, she said what do you mean? I said it’s fun for about 5 minutes. After that it’s boring and annoying. 🤣

I’m really tempted. Maybe I should just buy the equipment. All I need is the gun from HF.

Most of what you want to paint will only need the smaller touch up gun. Not much psi needed for that. That kit @Wildman posted would be more than adequate. I was tempted to get those GR A-pillar guards to cover up my dent, but I don't wheel hard anymore, so I'm going to repair the dent and repaint the A-pillar.
It's not cheap, but it is worth spending the coin for good quality paint. find a local automotive paint store that services body shops and have a pint of basecoat made up. They can camera shoot your Jeep for a closer match. Give them your Vin# and they can find any alternate formulas for your color and narrow it down pretty close. I only mention this as another alternative, and I kind of know you a little, and know your attention to detail, especially with your Jeep, so doing the work to do it right the first time will pay you dividends. BTW, I had a pint of basecoat mixed in Dupont's Chromobase. It was $150 for a pint of white. Red will be more.
